Panel: Blackwater tried to take Iraqi aircraft (steal)

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-10-19-blackwater-iraq_N.htm?csp=34

Blackwater USA tried to take at least two Iraqi military aircraft out of Iraq two years ago and refused to give the planes back when Iraqi officials sought to reclaim them, according to a congressional committee investigating the private security contractor.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, wants the company to provide all documents related to the attempted shipment and to explain where the aircraft are now.

1. They're unaccountable loose cannon mercenaries outside of the military chain of command,
sucking the public coffers dry while Cheney/Bush simultaneously hollow out the military, I see only bad coming from this.

2. Blackwater, to the best of my knowledge, are not neoconservatives.
They are mercenaries who are in it for the money, not proponents of any grand neo-Napoleonic scheme to remake the entire world in the image of eternal American hegemony through application of force.

5. Thank you for that stunningly in-depth rebuttal. Clearly I now understand

that despite all evidence, they are not a pack of mercenaries in it for kicks and checks, but are actually deep believers in the ability for America to bring everlasting peace and prosperity to the world by violently overthrowing governments that do not participate in the neoliberal world system and replacing them with free-market democracies happy to serve as neocolonies.

6. To an extent, yes.
And they'd be the foot soldiers of any other scheme if the price was right.

the heavier the cost, they will take any body's money. I also don't believe you will ever see them lobby for peace, as there is no money in it.

9. Hey, they just wanted some souvenirs. It's an American tradition.
As the old WW2 saying goes.....

"The Germans fight for the Fatherland & the Japanese fight for the Emperor but Americans fight for souvenirs."

16. It's the "neo con black ops" that worries me...
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 12:57 PM by KansDem
I would wonder what the Blackwater guy next door to me was doing in his garage on Saturday morning...:scared:

Incidentally, I know Blackwater doesn't go after terrorists; that's why I put that word in quotation marks. I just thought that might be what they were thinking when they murdered those 17 Iraqi citizens recently.
