Read Your Own DHS Travel Dossier
The Department of Homeland Security already knows everything about your travel. Now, for the first time, The Identity Project makes it easy for you to request the unclassified parts of the dossier that the DHS has complied on you.

Warning: You can only request records on behalf of yourself or others with their written explicit permission. There are severe penalties for making requests for records on someone else without their knowledge.

Are you prepared to find out for yourself the outrageous amount of personal information Homeland Security has been vacuuming-up on you? This is how to do it:

1. Download and fill-in the following two documents:
(right-click links below and select "Download Linked File..." or "Save Linked File As..."

1. Will checking yourself out send up red flags?
I am curious, but don't want to draw anymore attention than they already give.

2. I travel to the middle east every other year
I have been on the "extra speshl screening" list since 2000. I try not to fly with friends/coworkers, preferring to just meet them at our destination so that they aren't inconvenienced.

3. This is an old internet joke I believe
And it is NEVER advisable to type in your SS # or other information into an unknown site. :silly:

4. You don't enter personal info.
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 02:13 PM by phaseolus
You print out the forms, fill them out, and snail-mail them to the DHS.

I haven't done this yet, but plan on it. I've flown a LOT from '03 through the first half of '07, and I suspect I'm in a "hey, this guy's harmless" category since I'm never pulled out of the line for special screening, even when I make travel arrangements on short notice.

I'd like to request the info again in a couple years, after I make a few trips to China, to see if there are any differences...

5. Wups. My bad. That's what I get for talking about something I haven't
checked out.

I simply assumed it was like a joke site I had seen which said toenter your information to see your FBI file (this was years ago).

After doing so, a picture of an orangutan comes up with a funny quote, something like "You were seen last week ieating a banana in your hometown."

But it occurred to me later on that is a very unsecure thing to do.
