No wonder there are 10 fires going gangbusters... and winds are supposed to continue for a few more days..

The funny thing about the Santana winds is this..

They blow every year about this time, and when eastcoasters visit here, they usually see the clear blue skies, and the lovely spring-ish temperatures, and then they decide to move here :grr:

The stories about the smog and horrific heat "go away" for those weeks that the winds blow.. they blow all the crap in the air back to where it started, and clean out all the smog that collects in the basins.... My friends and I call this time of year "Hollywood weather"..until the fires start :(

1. CRAZY winds here - Lake Elizabeth.
Whipping around the house - bit scary.
Plus the dog barks at the wind! :)

Been two days of this, and I've just now found out about the fire near Castaic.
Yay! Another week with the evacuation plan in place!

2. Before the fires started, the wind whipped soot from the summer Zaca Fire all over us
We live in Goleta/Santa Barbara and saw a huge dirty cloud coming from in back of the mountains as we drove out to Ventura on Saturday. When we came home that night there was a heavy coat of fine black soot all over everything inside and out, and that fire has been out for weeks.

Then Sunday the fires began... The air is bad. I'm grateful to be far from the action, but like everyone who lives in California the fires affect us all personally. It could be us next time. In the past it has been us.

Stay safe, friends.

Hekate
