We here at the Malloy program are really, really, glad it's Friday!

It has been a very strange week, indeed. Southern California in flames, horrendous water shortages and unbreakable droughts throughout the Southeast, Bush giggling about World War III, the Turks deciding now is the perfect time to invade Iraq, Vladimir Putin telling Bush -- indirectly, of course -- that a US attack on Iran will be seen as a US attack on Russia, and our soon-to-be, brand-new, Attorney General is yet another full-throated supporter of uniquely alarming US fascism and torture, not to mention his support for government power concentrated solely in the Executive Branch.

Arghhhhhh . . .

I'm optimistic, because Screech seems fine. If the ultrasound doesn't show anything, he'll probably have another blood test to see if he has parathyroid problems (the vet said it's a very expensive blood test so she wants to rule out more common problems before we do that).

50. Vets are so much more sensitive these days.

When we took the critters in back in my childhood days, the vet was a gruff old horsedoctor type.

I adore our local vet. His office sent us flowers for Oreo today!

For both Willie and Cosmo our vet sent us sympathy cards. The vet who treated Cosmo at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan sent us a hand written note.

I hope that you and Mr. c are doing okay! I've received handwritten cards for cats that I've owned and 1 stray that had to be put down. Our vet, because of where we live, has to see large (farm) animals, small animals and has been pushed into the world of exotic animals and he's wonderful. He went out of his way to save our middle child's guinea pig, as it was his first pet that was his responsibility.

How are you, Mr. c. and the fuzzies doing tonight? They found a home for the kitten, so we won't be welcoming any new additions to our fur-family in the near future. Another client, who'd recently lost a kitty took him in. I'm glad Spot found a new home. While we were there, someone brought in another stray kitten but this little guy wasn't doing so well. The poor thing couldn't walk. :(

It's so hard to resist strays, isn't it? Or kitties nobody wants to deal with anymore. Cats are so attached to their homes, and it must be so traumatic for them.

I just know a little straggler will show up at our door sometime, and we have a space open.

I guess they'll try to do whatever they can for him and possibly try to find him a home. He was soooo cute, he looked just like our Peanut. One of the things I love about this practice is that they'll treat strays and adopt them out if they can get them well.

The 17yr. olds sign reads: "Bush ...making MURDER moral since 2003" and in smaller letters across the bottom "he's such a fine christian man". That's a real zinger in these parts as there are LTTEs that state that "he's such a fine, christian man".

Our impeachment sign reads, "Pray for impeachment, Cheney first, dear lord, amen", which will piss anyone off here who happens to see it. I stole that one from a bumpersticker that I saw.

I have a sticker that reads, "Who do I have to blow to get my country back?", that I've never had the nerve to put on the car...a sign perhaps?

We're also taking our old, tattered signs as a statement as to how many times we've been out protesting. Some of these signs have been used locally and when the youngest and I were in DC in Sept. right after Katrina. Hubbie's favorite reads: Send in the Twins!

We usually do double-sided signs with the same theme so I just may use this! :bounce: :toast:

It stopped south of Temecula. Pala Native Americans were affected, as well as some of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians (our friends - that have the casino near Temecula - my kid went to school with them up until third grade - the little private school closed). Anyway, Pechanga trailers, etc., being taken up by those evacuated on the Rez.

Got one burning towards us to the Northwest.

No one is going to get hurt in either Murrieta or Temecula - but our air quality is so poor that the schools have been closed the last week.

Sister had it coming towards in San Clemente, but I believe that's under control.

I don't care what anyone says, the weather here has changed dramatically in the last couple of years.

We're having the strangest weather patterns.

For awhile, a couple of months ago, we had hot, humid weather; we had fleas in the Inland Empire. I've lived here over 20 years - never seen a flea (it was too dry for them - they were almost at the beaches). Fortunately, they aren't in my house, and my neighbors have treated all of the other local cats, and we haven't seen any lately - but the whole episode was weird.

Now, we have the dry, windy conditions; one thing is certain - we haven't had anywhere near the normal amount of rain.

And, it gets worse every year.

here ranged from the mid-70s to the low 80s. I've worn a jacket ONCE since autumn started. It was pretty much the same last year as well; winter didn't really start until sometime in mid-January.
