Jeff Gannon sits one seat over from Cheney @ National Press Club event

http://www.examiner.com/blogs/Yeas_and_Nays/2007/10/19/Cheney-a-surprise-guest-for-Lynnes-book-chat

Cheney a surprise guest for Lynne’s book chat

There aren’t many rooms where Vice President Dick Cheney gets a standing ovation these days. Who knew that one of them would be at the media-laden National Press Club?

...

Not that the whole room was press. There were more than a few Republicans and friends and relatives of the Second Couple, including their daughters, Liz and Mary. It made club President Jerry Zremski’s usual warning to the TV audience that applause may be coming from guests “and not necessarily from members of the working press” that much more appropriate.

But even many of the press members on stage were relatively friendly: NBC’s Pete Williams, a former Pentagon reporter and native of Casper, Wyo., Chris Berry, general manager of conservative talk station WMAL, and conservative journalist Jeff Gannon.

PRESS RELEASE: Jeff Gannon Book Selected for National Press Club Book Fair

'The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report' Featured At 30th Annual Event

WASHINGTON, October 16 /Standard Newswire/ -- A book by former White House correspondent Jeff Gannon, "The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report" will be among those featured at the 2007 National Press Club Book Fair. The National Press Club is the world's most prestigious association of professional journalists. The November 1st event is the 30th annual book fair and benefits the Eric Friedheim Journalism Library at the National Press Club.

Jeff Gannon, the first exclusively online reporter to cover the White House on a regular basis is considered a New Media pioneer. He notes that his daily readership of more than half a million topped the circulation of most newspapers, despite reporting for a small news outlet. Gannon points out that since his tenure at the White House nearly every news entity has launched an online presence.

Gannon chronicles his two years as a member of the White House Press Corps and reveals his role in the Valerie Plame affair and the scandal that toppled Dan Rather from the CBS News anchor chair as well as the historic defeat of Sen. Tom Daschle in 2004. He also offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the White House Press Corps, led by the legendary Helen Thomas.

Gannon weighs in on the left versus right, liberal versus conservative debate that he dubs "The Great Media War". He contends that the struggles between those opposing ideologies play themselves out on radio, television and in the newspapers every day and determine how news is reported. Gannon also sees the Internet as the next front in The Great Media War and discusses its effect on the future of journalism and news reporting.

Gannon writes about his experiences after asking one of the most famous questions ever posed by a reporter to a president. He explains "The Question" and speculates as to the reasons the reaction to it caused a nationwide sensation.

Gannon has something to say about nearly every member of the Beltway media establishment as well as many Washington politicians. His book is replete with evidence of pervasive liberal media bias well beyond the point of questioning whether or not it exists. Gannon proves the point with words directly taken from the lips of his colleagues.

And still he gets invited to stuff and parades around on our TV screens. I swear that JimmyJeff GuckertGannon must have sucked about half of all the wrinkly Republican cocks in Washington.

He is not a journalist. He is a sleazy gay hooker. No offense to gay hookers. The emphasis is on sleazy.

It is amazing that the homophobes in the Republican Party don't seem to mind the homosexuals in their own ranks. Probably gives new meaning to "quid pro quo." You rub my ____, I'll rub yours.

No doubt the homophobia is merely a means to divert attention. Paul Craig's crime may not have been his possibly being gay. His crime was getting caught with his pants almost down.

Larry Craig, but with so many pervs in their ranks, one could easily mix up names!

The Republican Party is about hypocrisy, secret deal-making and secretive lifestyles.
That's why they all vote together as a block & get what they want. It's about blackmail.

They must be doing some REALLY nasty things to our freedoms for them to let these scandals remain in the press. I agree, it must be for diversion.

48. C-SPAN ever mention he's also a MALE PROSTITUTE?

It's something that Corporate McPravda also should mention whenever
he's seated next to the sneering turd who'd be a heartbeat away from the presidency,
if he had one. And we had one.

94. Yes, it is. Note the splayed fingers, so as to touch as much as possible.
Edited on Sun Oct-28-07 12:52 PM by WinkyDink
Note the affectionate lightness of the touch, the intimacy of hand-to-neck-and-ear, the ROMANTIC nature of the embrace.

I don't think it's difficult to "interpret". Jeff WAS a frequent, and hoped-to-be secret, visitor to the WH.

66. They have about the same thin organizational structure and immediate
upward mobility as.....hate to say it.... as al Qaeda. Seriously this guy is STILL touted by then as both relevant and NOT a complete embarassment and basically every foot soldier in al Qaeda is, at worst, the #3 guy in any given geographic unit.

55. Ahh, Jeff Gannon is a republicon homelander, therefore...
...he thinks of himself as special and "above the law" like most of the other republicon homelanders. So I doubt he paid his taxes, because that's the kind of thing Americans do -- and republicon homelanders are forever displaying their distain for America and Americans.

59. Oy vey, how does this continue to be unknown by the masses?
With all the crimes of this administration, we've always known a sex scandal is the only hope for unleashing the dam of truth. I'm not overly well-versed about Gannon and his history at the WH, nor do I really want to be....ughhhh....but given the appetite the public and media have always had, sadly, for sex scandals, why doesn't this ever come to light in a big way?

Damn, if nothing else, can't Larry Flynt use his money to catapult this story and how it involves the WH to get some air play?

63. The Gannon/Guckert story did make the papers, sort of...
I read about the story online, somewhere, when it first came out. I remember waiting for some sort of account of it to appear in my local paper, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The editors chose not to run a single, straight "news report." Not one. But someone on the editorial staff (the good ones are out-numbered, I'm afraid) did elect to include a column on it, from one of their op-ed page semi-regular's, Maureen Dowd.

And that column was really one of the best she's ever done:

http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0217-28.htm

Excerpt:

"...I am very impressed with James Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon.

How often does an enterprising young man, heralded in press reports as both a reporter and a contributor to such sites as Hotmilitarystud.com, Workingboys.net, Militaryescorts .com, MilitaryescortsM4M.com and Meetlocalmen.com, get to question the president of the United States?

Who knew that a hotmilitarystud wanting to meetlocalmen could so easily get to be face2face with the commander in chief?

It's hard to believe the White House could hit rock bottom on credibility again, but it has, in a bizarre maelstrom that plays like a dark comedy. How does it credential a man with a double life and a secret past?

"Jeff Gannon" was waved into the press room nearly every day for two years as the conservative correspondent for two political Web sites operated by a wealthy Texas Republican. Scott McClellan often called on the pseudoreporter for softball questions.

Howard Kurtz reported in The Washington Post yesterday that although Mr. Guckert had denied launching the provocative Web sites - one described him as " 'military, muscular, masculine and discrete' (sic)" - a Web designer in California said "that he had designed a gay escort site for Gannon and had posted naked pictures of Gannon at the client's request."

And The Wilmington News-Journal in Delaware reported that Mr. Guckert was delinquent in $20,700 in personal income tax from 1991 to 1994.

I'm still mystified by this story. I was rejected for a White House press pass at the start of the Bush administration, but someone with an alias, a tax evasion problem and Internet pictures where he posed like the "Barberini Faun" is credentialed to cover a White House that won a second term by mining homophobia and preaching family values?

At first when I tried to complain about not getting my pass renewed, even though I'd been covering presidents and first ladies since 1986, no one called me back. Finally, when Mr. McClellan replaced Ari Fleischer, he said he'd renew the pass - after a new Secret Service background check that would last several months.

In an era when security concerns are paramount, what kind of Secret Service background check did James Guckert get so he could saunter into the West Wing every day under an assumed name while he was doing full-frontal advertising for stud services for $1,200 a weekend? He used a driver's license that said James Guckert to get into the White House, then, once inside, switched to his alter ego, asking questions as Jeff Gannon..."

...So, Maureen Dowd's column revealed all the right facts, and also asked most of the right follow-up questions, but since it was just an "opinion piece", no one ever had to address it. Problem solved. (It also didn't hurt to have a small but vocal element of the Right Wing Noise Machine raise a Greek chorus of protest, about how Gannon/Guckert was being unfairly singled out for 'being gay'.)

I wish I had a dime for every thousand dollars (0.01 %) the Republicans spend on P.R./News Management & Control. This story was even more sordid, and it's never come within sighting/hailing/spitting distance of the public's awareness:

http://www.bartcop.com/bushblewaguy.htm

But Jeff Gannon/Guckert will soon (November 1st) have his masterfull new tome on the Media Crisis in America released, at The National Press Club.

Makes you proud to be an American.

Says a lot, eh?

It sounds like this is cut and dry, no one disputing Jeff Guckert and Gannon are one and the same? Unbelievable. I can just hear that small but vocal element of which you speak whining about him being "unfairly singled out for 'being gay'". Again, unbelievable.

I think we liberal, progressive types must have some bad karma or something.

68. Wasn't Jeff Gannon
Part of the child sex ring going on in the WH during Reagan and Bush? I had read somewhere that a boy who was described as possibly Jeff was kidnapped in the 80's and was brought to the WH for child sex. Now if this is true then you know why he is invited to all these events and to be in press conferences. And I do recall that Dick was in the R/B admin so who knows if they have had a long relationship with each other. And we all know how much Bush Jr likes bald men. YUCK!

NO one's conclusively sure if he's James Guckert/Jeff Gannon though, AFAIK

86. Seriously....WHO IS HIS BOYFRIEND???
If this was a female prostitute with this kind of access to the WH and basing their "career" on asking smooshy questions to the powers that be, everyone would be asking who's she doin'? How did this story go away? Can you imagine if he was an intimate visitor of the Clinton WH? OMG they would NEVER shut up about it on Faux, not for one second!

So that Cheney's "natural" lifting of his head allows him to LOOK AT JEFF.
They think they're subtle.

I think "Bulldog" was hailed to the WH for both top dogs.

90. 200 visits to WH in 2 years, 155 on days with pressers.
14 found with check ins but no check outs, some found with different exit locations than the entry locations. All in Secret Service records.
