I realize it says the State of California, but it would work no matter where you live! This was mentioned on a Sat. AM CNN show called "Open House", and this AM they covered what you should have BEFORE there's ever a problem so you have the necessary documentation to present to your insurance company. This info is necessary in the event of a fire OR burgluary, and EVERYONE should have it KEPT IN A SAFE PLACE!

They recommend keeping this documentation in a fireproof safe, at your office, or with a relative or friend.

I hope none of us need to use a home inventory list like this, but we should ALL have it, just in case.

We had taken a video of the contents of our home in the past for this purpose, but this guide taught me that that isn't enough!
