1. Excellent. Great book. What might have been. . .
Of all the "what ifs" in my life - if JFK had lived, etc. - the biggest is, what if Al Gore had been president the past seven years?

It's a great tragedy for the entire world that he hasn't been. And the Bush nightmare is far from over.

18. This is silly but
Put a little larger nose on Gore and a white wig and he looks like George Washington.

Congratulations and Salutations, Al Gore, on your latest award for "Assault On Reason"! Which is one of the best descriptive titles I've ever come across.

6. Actually Inconvenient Truth won two Oscars...
Melissa Ethridge won for best song for that movie too... Not sure if that counts for Al, but I think it counts as much as the best documentary does in a way...

20. Didn't know that about Melissa - and that album sounds great!
Just goes to show how much that book was read and appreciated. hearing these things gives me hope. That's why I think most Americans ARE behind impeachment and getting that group of liars out of office.

26. I think "I Need to Wake Up" needs to be our presidential campaign theme song!
And that necessitates Al Gore getting in the race!

7. Whats next for Al Gore? Next he is going to want to climb a mountain!
Nope, never mind. He already acclomplished that...

Al Gore and his young son on the summit of Mt. Rainier

Jim Frush, President of the American Alpine Club, sent me this photo of Vice President Al Gore and his son on the summit of Mt. Rainier. Al Gore took a break just before starting his campaign for the Presidency to experience a climb Mt. Rainier together with his teen age son. His friend Jim Frush, coordinated the summit attempt. Although the weather was bad, Al and his son persevered and summited together. --Webmeister

(The note "To Bob- From one President to another" refers to my questioning Jim's current Presidency of the AAC. There are actually two presidents of the AAC, Honorary President Robert H. Bates and President C. James Frush. At the time I was the President of Cascades Mountaineers. Jim Frush lives in Seattle.) --Bob Speik

12. no- he is going to go to Disneyland!
if he were concerned with trivial things. However, the man is too much of a genius for such ordinary things. I really wish that he would throw his hat in the ring.

15. What's left?
The Booker prize (but I don't think he's eligible for that)
Various lesser prizes for tv, movies and books

And the Presidency (and with any luck, he'd actually get to serve this time) but I'm increasingly on the opinion that he won't be running.

Gore was a journalist by trade before he got into politics.

I bet he eventually wins that, too.

27. Get some sun and hit the treadmill, Al.
You are incredibly well-qualified to be President. But if you don't look the part (whatever "the look" is supposed to be in this looks-obsessed country) the great unwashed out there will never vote for you.

I will vote for you even if you looked like Jabba The Hutt. You are my President, sir.

Congratulations on your well-deserved Quill award.

whatever "the look" is supposed to be in this looks-obsessed country?

Hypocritical much?

Not a damn thing wrong with Mr. Gore's appearance. He is far more Presidential than any of the current candidates.

32. I agree there's absolutely nothing wrong with his appearance.
But in order to get him elected, we need to convince the vast cheese-dog and beer-nut nation out there that there IS nothing wrong with his looks. Tough call in a country where Paris Hilton gets more ink than Stephen Hawking.

34. That's good to know; I am one.
;-)

I think if he declares his candidacy, he could win even if he sleepwalks for the entire campaign. But as Campaign 2000 taught us, don't take ANYTHING for granted. We have never needed him more than we need him right now...

29. I don't believe
the problem is the unwashed so much as the millionaire pundits and puppet columnist's junior high focus on trivia and the superficial as opposed to substance. For the people; who can only get their information from them, I believe it's like being force fed fecal material all your life, after a few years, you probably wouldn't notice the smell.

35. FANTASTIC
I just wish I had ordered more first editions. His book is already into its later printings. I had to order a later one so I could read it, because I don't read award winning first editions: I save them in my collection. : - )

Good work, Al. We love you so much. Run, dammit.
