Blind Man, 75, Shoots Intruder
Blind Man, 75, Shoots Intruder

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A 75-year-old legally blind man shot and injured an intruder at his home, according to police.

Police said Cevaughn Curtis, 28, knocked on the door of Arthur Williams' home around 3 a.m. Friday and asked to be let inside.

When Williams refused, police said Curtis pushed the door in anyway.

Williams went into his bedroom, called 911 and then shot Curtis in the neck, said Sgt. Barry Kays of the Gainesville Police Department.

Curtis told authorities he went to Williams' residence to buy beer, but it was not clear how well the two knew each other.

5. Legally blind and "can't see" are two entirely different things.
Legally blind includes perfect 20/20 vision in a narrow field of view, corrected vision of 20/200, or good peripheral vision but poor central vision.

My grandmother is legally blind, but can look at photos; she just has no vision straight ahead due to macular degeneration.
