Military recruiting calls concern some families
Contacting students at home allowed under law

Some local families think the military knows a bit too much.

Jennifer Journey said her daughter, a Bakersfield High School student, was very uneasy after a recruiter recently called and offered to come over to the house to give her more information about a career in the military.

She and her daughter both thought the call might be a scam.

"I don't believe they should have our home phone numbers," Jennifer Journey said Friday. "We live in times where you don't know if it's a real phone call or a fraud."

.....
"We don't pressure our applicants," he said.

1. We signed a form handed out by the school that they could not give our number
to recruiters.

I did get into a "discussion" with a recruiter at a school faire as he was telling people it is no more dangerous in Iraq than it is driving in Washington. I took exception to him lying to children who would risk their lives based on what he told them.

3. The Army and the Marines are desperate for manpower due to the war.
It figures that the recruiters would become more aggressive.

4. I love wasting their time by giving them facts against war/preventing them from calling others
so far my record is about 30 minutes with one recruiter that was calling for my son.

If I keep them tied up on the phone, that is one less potential recruiting call they can make to someone else.

The life you save, may not be your own (son's).

6. We don't pressure our applicants? Yes they do. They go to school to learn how to do it.
It's called "Decision Dynamics" and it's part of every recruiting course.

It's very similar to what car salesmen try to do to people.

The funny thing is, once you've had the class, you can see the bullshit coming a mile away!!!
