How exactly do power ups work??
this stuff in fun alright...but the powerups?? how do they work? do you have to select the right one at the right time or .. do you have to select how YOUR power up will work THEN wait for some random selector to chose whose powerup comes to the fore??

does anyone know?

1. I think it's the sort of thing where you don't need to ask
that is, if you get one, you'll know

they are given randomly

2. do they need to be filled in ahead of time?? I filled all my choices
but what if I had not done so? could I still be randomly selected..then asked to fill in the info?

8. I don't understand what you mean -- "filled your choices"
Did you get a powerup? I had thought that if you "find" one, that it is a specific one, not that you can choose which one.

After you win one, I think you then can fill in the choices and thus "activate" it.

No?

We need the 4 powerup winners to clue us in on this mystery.

17. I think that's just to show what the choices are
but unless you actually "find" a powerup, it's for demonstration purposes only (imho)

I'm just guessing though

10. If you donate $1000+ you get to single handedly change the outcome of the race.
Just like real life!

Not really, but until I know that's what I'll assume. ;)

12. You eat the mushroom. For instance, if John Edwards eats the red mushroom, he doubles in size/height
Then he can break stacks of bricks with his head like in Super Mario Brothers. If he eats the blue mushrooms, though, he dies if he's normal size or reverts back to normal size if he's in his double-size state.

18. Powerups.
There are 11 powerups. All eleven are listed on the FUN RUN page, along with a brief description of what they do, whether (and by whom) it has been found, and whether it has been activated. For longer descriptions, click the name of the powerup. They're pretty funny, actually:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=funrun#powerups

Whether anyone finds a powerup is random. Whenever you move any candidate on the FUN RUN page, there is a chance that you will find a powerup. If you find one, you will get a notification telling you which powerup you found, and how to activate it. You don't get to choose which powerup you find, but you do get to choose which candidate(s) the powerup will affect.

If you are the person who found a particular powerup, then a button will appear on the powerup so you can activate it. You do not have to activate it immediately, but you need to activate it before the DU fund drive takes in 900 donations, or else you miss your chance.

One more thing: We set it up so they cannot be found after the fund drive takes in 900 donations. If you're waiting until after 900 donations to move your candidate without fear of your moves being undone by a powerup, you are going to miss your chance to (maybe) find one. There are still some powerful ones left.

24. When you eat one, you get to chase the ghosts around the board.
Just be sure to be quick, because they will not last forever and if they catch you, Pacman dies.
