Why do progressive stations carry MSM news broadcasts |
|
I'm listening to the Stephanie miller show on 1090 from Seattle. At the top of every hour they broadcast AP radio news and it really sucks. This morning I heard how great things are in Iraq and how Sen McCain "defused" a tense situation by "defending" Sen Clinton after one of his supporters called her a bad name. The contrast between the content of the newscasts and the actual shows in glaring. Isn't there any other news these people can carry.

They don't have to pay to create their own content.

3. They still have to pay the AP wire fee. |
|
Which is actually pretty hefty.

2. They're radio wire reports, just like print wire reports, so options are limited... |
|
just as with print you can choose from AP, AFP, Reuters, and a few other smaller ones, in radio, you can choose from AP, CNN, and a few smaller ones. So, options are limited at best.

4. Options are indeed limited |

I broadcast on a community radio station (weru-fm in Maine). We have had a lot of trouble with news feeds. It's not just a matter of cost, but technical issues, such as the length of the news reports, the times they are available, etc. enter into it as well.
If you want an hourly news update, there isn't a good choice that doesn't cost more than most small stations can afford. We run the Democracy Now headlines in the morning, but they don't update throughout the day.
