Firefighter appreciation thread |
|
This is kinda stimulated by something else I replied to, but I have an uncle who's a batallion commander (or something) in Colorado. He works professionally and gets paid for it. I also grew up (and live) in New England where we often have volunteers. Sometimes we're tempted to make some fun of them because they get into the whole firefighter thing with the trucks and the radios and the lights, but I'll also tell you that when the shit hits the fan, these guys will be at your door in minutes. When it comes to saving YOU, who has the bigger siren doesn't matter. I haven't had to call these guys often, but on the rare occasions, they're right there. I can't say enough for that - I'm glad we have a system where we help each other, and I'm glad we might be able to say thanks.

My brother is a chief of police and volunteer firefighter. My nephew (his son) is a paramedic and firefighter. These guys, and those men and women like them across the country, are true unsung heroes. We never seem to appreciate them until we need them.

3. Firefighters/EMTs RULE! |
|
I am thankful for the small town volunteer firefighters/EMTs came to my rescue when a severe bout of bronchitis had me in respiratory arrest 12 years ago. They saved my life while my three young children looked on in terror. I still blush when I see one of them in the supermarket or the Little League field 'cause they saw me naked
