Kick the habit. It doesn't hurt one little bit.

I've been a political news junkie since 1980. CNN used to be my main source of news during the good old days when Ted Turner created a wonderful new concept. Since that time we all know what has become opf CNN and the rest of the cable dustbin.

About 6 months ago I decided to program my TV to simply not even show CNN or CNNHN or Fox on my TV. I thought I would not be able to resist going back though. Much to my surprise, after about two weeks of no cable news channels, I did not miss it at all.

Quite honestly, I feel better informed that I have chosen not to listen to the idiot news readers. Not only that, I no longer get angry watching the news. Now I watch Democracy Now, BBC and some other international news shows on satellite.

I cannot recommend enough to you all how wonderful this decision was for me. You can do it as well. Just take a moment and de-prgram your tele to block Fox and CNN. Stick to it for a couple of weeks and you will be so thankful for what you did.

We all need to walk away from the nonsense, one viewer at a time. It's your turn.

2. BBC, C-span, Deutche Welle, AFP
it helps to have satellite TV and radio. Democracy Now remains the best news program that no one can watch.

IMHO it's really important to listen to international news sources
like the BBC and AFP in order to understand how others are viewing the story and it's also good to rely on print sources more than video ones for the simple reason that video time for a given news item is so constrained unless it involves lots of graphic images.

3. I'm there with you.
My Dish programming guide doesn't show the MSM either. I too watch FSTV, Link, BBC, Documentary Channel, etc.

5. Some of us haven't watched TV for years, period
and we don't tune in to talk radio or read the MSM either. Glad to see you're catching up.

6. Blocking isn't really possible on Comcast digital
You can put parental controls on the channels, but the channels will always appear on the guide.

I want to pull all the home shopping and televangelist channels out of the guide too. I know they could give us that option in the software, but I assume it's a contractual thing.

7. Here's how you do it
There should be an option for setting up your own listings. You create a new list and put just the channels you want, then the listings will only show those channels. I did it when I had Comcast.
