Report: U.S. teen births rise
ATLANTA - The nation's teen birth rate has risen for the first time in 14 years, according to a new government report.

The birth rate had been dropping since 1991. The decline had slowed in recent years, but government statisticians said Wednesday it jumped 3 percent from 2005 to 2006.

"It took us by surprise," said Stephanie Ventura of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a co-author of the report.

<snip>

The teen increase was based on the 15-19 age group, which accounted for about 99 percent of the more than 440,000 births to teens in 2006.

So, how's that abstinence-only thing working out for ya?

7. Remember, abstinence has a 100% failure rate.

3. I'm thinking its related to the dismal math and science scores our
teens (15 year olds) scored against industrialized nations (17th and 29th out of 30 respectively).

Dumbing down of America continues.

That we even HAVE a "J-walking" contestant on a morning talk show (The View) acting as some sort of pundit says a lot about where we are as a nation.

4. How could this take the CDC by surprise? Ms. Ventura must be a Bush* appointee/non-scientist type.
:grr:

Not only do preganancy rates go up so do STD rates because none of the kids are taught about protection from preganancy or STDs.

5. So, it decreased during Clinton and increased during Bush's "Abstinence-only" Presidency?
Boy, I bet they are thinking feverishly on how to blame Bill Clinton for that, too

6. "Just do what 'we' say" doesn't work when the nation is being run by
a bunch of hypocritical, blaspheming idolators.

The cat's out of the bag, folks, and it ain't ever going back.
