Why Mike Huckabee scares me....
Huckabee Wanted to Isolate AIDS Patients
By ANDREW DeMILLO – 13 hours ago

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk."

As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies.

Huckabee said Saturday that his comments came at a time when "the AIDS crisis was just that — a crisis. We didn't know exactly all the details of how extensive it was going to be. There was just a real panic in this country. If I were making those same comments today, I might make them a little differently."

So you thought that AIDS was dangerous yet OPPOSED FEDERAL FUNDING FOR RESEARCH. Sounds to me that our "Christian" friend figured that AIDS was a good way to kill off all the gays--Isolate them from the rest of the "normals" and let them die off is pretty much what I think his idea was..And this whole BS about making these comments a little differently..How so? Maybe you still think that funding shouldn't be given for AIDS since its only the immoral ones who get sick still? And we do know EXACTLY how dangerous AIDS is, its not like the issue has been solved. I would really like someone to get this weasel to clarify just WHAT he would change in his comments..The only good think about this guy maybe winning Iowa is hopefully mainstream America sees just what a maniac and bigot this guy is.....:scared:

2. Classic Snake Oil Salesman
Huckster sneaks into town, sweet talks you, panders like crazy, picks your pocket clean and moves onto the next town. On the surface, this guy seems friendly...unassuming...soft spoken with enough disarming humor to keep the diversion alive. Meanwhile, his real missions and masters are always hidden...his smile becomes a weapon and a shield...hiding behind it to avoid any accountability.

His rise in Iowa is more a representation of the void in the other candidates as it is in his own strength. As one who lived in Iowa, once you get into the red rural area, it's very bible belt...and Huckster has been the default choice as the other candidates have disqualified themselves. Here's where a vocal 25% of the GOOP base can make a big difference...and how its overblown in the overall political picture.

No, Huckster isn't mainstream...he's just a placeholder for someone/anyone other among the "fundies" in a state where they turn out in large numbers for Repugnican caucuses.

3. I hope so..
I've seen Huckabee on Colbert Report/Daily Show and he does come off as charming....I never realized from his appearances on the show that he was a total whackjob, and thats what scares me because there are a lot of not so smart non-fundies who will be fooled by this smooth talker, I am afraid.....

5. He's Under A Light Now
Until now he was a fringe candidate...the nice guy sitting in the corner. Now that his numbers are rising, so is his past and a lot of scrutiny.

The good thing here is that he's upsetting the Repugnican applecart right now. He's not "beltway" and is now in the sites of several of the campaigns who will bring out as much dirt as they can on him to knock him back down to size. The race is getting nasty and you've got some of the "best" opposition research teams at work here. Thompson's already started smearing Huckster...expect the others to follow.

I think more people are/were hookwinked by McCain than they have been by Huckster...and that's where I'd be watching. With all these other campaigns imploding, McCain is quietly gaining strength and support.
