Wiccan display at Green Bay City Hall vandalized
GREEN BAY — A Wiccan display put atop City Hall last week after a nativity scene was set up was vandalized early Monday, police said.

A Green Bay police officer was flagged down just before 12:45 a.m. by a citizen who reported seeing someone on a ladder taking down a decoration.

The ladder was left at the scene and the partially damaged Wiccan wreath that was taken down was found behind some shrubs nearby.

Last week Green Bay City Council president Chad Fradette put up a nativity scene which he had paid for. It seems he's trying to pick a fight with the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The City Council will decide Tuesday whether its Advisory Council and Mayor Jim Schmitt were right in agreeing that Council President Chad Fradette should be able to put up the display, which he did Wednesday night.

The outcome of the debate defies prediction, as it could result in some unusual political alignments. The issue passed 4-1 at committee. Alderwoman Celestine Jeffreys, the lone dissenting voter, protested that the council would be unable to determine what is and is not a legitimate expression of religious faith. She found herself in the atypical position Wednesday of arguing on the same side of the fence as Alderman Guy Zima, who isn't on the committee and therefore couldn't vote but dismissed Fradette's display as a publicity stunt.

1. Was the Goddess too busy betting on St Louis at the time?
:hide:

(the Father of Jesus gets the usual cynical comment from people; myself not excepted either... seems only fair to be a cynic on equal time...)

3. Typical
The fundies wring their hands claiming that not being able to display symbols of their religion on public lands is persecution. But look at what happens when symbols of other faiths are displayed. Real persecution.

4. The loving spirit of the baby Jesus breaking out all over.
Never trust those Christians that quote the Commandments much more readily than the Beatitudes.

7. True freedom of religion means you tolerate all belief systems
Unfortunately those crying about the persecution of their own faith are often those most likely to persecute the beliefs of others.
