Maybe that is not the right term but what I am talking about is "killing two birds with one stone" type activity. What I am immediately referring to is Iran. I believe they are really wanting Revenge for the Hostage Crisis of the late seventies. Iran sort of stuck it to America on that one. It was what sunk Carter's re-election, and got their God Reagan elected but they also want to establish a presence in the area because of their large oil reserves. They used Iran in the eighties to help finance the Contras which Congress had cut off funding for. It was called the Iran-Contra affair and it had to do with giving arms to Iran for payment and the release of our hostages. Also at that time they invented Crack cocaine which is basically a very cheap way of free-basing cocaine and distributed it to the inner cities for more money to fund their Contra war in Nicaragua. By putting the drug into the inner cities they were able to use their drug laws, which they changed to make Crack worse than Cocaine, to convict a large portion of blacks for felonies so as to deny them ever the right to vote. A lot of birds were killed with very few stones. I guess what I am saying is they always seem to have "ulterior motives and usually are successful at it..We need to be aware that there is always more than meets the eye when dealing with the GOP.

1. And they're about to meet the Blue Screen of Death in 2008
The Democrats are going to reboot the government and install a more user-friendly operating system.

2. The only part of that I don't connect with
is the need to exact revenge for the hostages. The Ayatollah played along with them perfectly on that one, releasing the hostages within minutes of Reagan's inauguration. They also did their part through the Iran-Contra business. Why would they seek revenge on people they're in league with? I think the Iran problem developed a little later. We backed Hussein against them in the Iran-Iraq war, which the Iranians viewed as a betrayal, and they took a distinctly skeptical view of our machinatins beginning about then.

5. Only "officially" backed Iraq against Iran. Reagan/Bush were funding and
supplying BOTH sides in that war.

3. one thing for certain -the DO NOT multi-task...
What the Repugs excell at is singular tasking. By that I mean they are so disciplined that they can split tasks up and assign them and know that the tasks implementer will stay strictly to that effort and not go wondering off in an ADD haze when another bright object appears in the headlights. Quite unlike the Democrats. Is that good or is that bad?

Well, if the task is a good one, and the implementer is competent it is the best of all possible worlds. Fortunately in neither case does that fit the GOP. But it wouldn't hurt the Dems at all levels to get just a smidgeon of self-discipline and a wee bit longer attention span.

7. IA, but not with the underlying reason
It is that Democrats are willing and able to see the grey areas and more likely to question things, thinking for themselves. Whereas the repuklicans just do as they are told.
