primaries - that is in states where you can declare party at the polling place, like Iowa, a lot of independent voters are more likely to vote in the democratic primaries (at least as long as there are enough candidates for it to be interesting) which would leave the more die hard repubs - and a big chunk of those are the crazies who would vote for Huckabee - then he is the nominee - and those independents again vote for the Democrat!
Then again - it could mean under fluke circumstances that we end up with Huckabee as president - and that would *not* be good.

Iowa is a very polarized state when it comes to issues like abortion rights and the teaching of evolution in public schools. Differences fall squarely along party lines. Evangelicals took over the Iowa GOP a long time before they got their current influence in the national party.

and since they aren't known for their electoral honesty, they may be able to rig things so he won't.

How do you suppose a flat-earther like that got to be governor of Arkansas in the first place? He inherited the job when Gov. Jim Guy Tucker got caught up in Whitewater. That's right, Whitewater, the faux scandal ginned up by Richard Mellon $caife and the "Arkansas Project". So Schmuckabee's been the darling of the rabid red-meat Clinton-haters (both Bill and Hillary) since the git-go.
He even pressured the Ark. parole board to release convicted rapist Wayne Dumond, who had become a cause celebre of the RRMCH's because his victim was distantly related to Clinton, and thus the RRMCH's assumed he got a raw deal. After Schmuckabee arranged for Dumond's release, he promptly moved to Missouri and murdered two people. Heckuvajob, Mikey! :sarcasm:
edit: header
edit 2: You're in Ark., right? Any dish on whether Schmuckabee retains ties to the Clintons-eat-roast-babies crowd?

24. I don't think so. I think they'd feel just fine with him in the WH. |
|
It's no secret that he's crooked as hell, and not exactly a rocket surgeon. I think that "moneyed interests" would find him to be a tractable, cost-effective pawn in their various machinations.

And that Huckabee's victory was a walk.
In other states, it's going to be a lot harder for him. He'll do well in the South. He probably scares a lot of Republicans, though.

|
but that's it. He wouldn't get any farther than that, IMO.
Otherwise, I barely care what repuke wins. I'll care later on...in about six months or so when we know who has the nom on both sides.

15. He can pull off nomination, and that would be bad for democrats |
|
I've long thought that an economic populist could readily win the presidency IF he or she won a major party nomination. I never figured that it would be a Republican rather than a Democrat. Huckabee scares me big time. His aw-shucks gomer pyle demeanor will lead to 8 more years of right-wing judicial appointees.

I don't think he'll get the republican nomination. He's only doing fair in NH and I don't think he has much of a chance in some of the higher electoral vote states. New York, Cali...no way.

There are a lot of them, and lots of them vote. The ones I know are gung ho Huck.
If he's the republican nominee, we'd damn well sure better have a nominee who can beat him.

My guess is that the repukes will give it to Rudy and hold their noses and vote for him or stay home. It will be a lot like the Dole nomination.

23. I've been saying for two years |
|
that Huckabee would be a strong contender for the Republican nomination. I not only believe that he can win his party's nomination, but I think we Democrats take him lightly at our own peril. I guaran-damn-tee you one thing - if he is the Republican nominee we cannot count on the MSM to point out to the American people how bat-shit-crazy and dangerous he is, AND we cannot count on enough folks having the time and/or energy to figure it out their own. He will be a formidable candidate. Mark my word.
I don't particularly care for any of our top three candidates, but I'll do what I can to get any of them elected if this clown is the alternative. That's how badly he scares the shit out of me.
