Mitt Romney will be the RePUKE presidential nominee |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 01:02 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
He'll be harder to beat than any of the other contenders. Democrats will have to (stealthily) go after his religion and turn off the mainstream and a big part of the RePUKE religious right against him.
This will mean bringing out the tenets of his religion and making the fundies face up to them. Someone here suggested leafleting the fundie churches and other tactics that RePUKES have used against each other since the beginning of the fundie takeover of their evil and incompetent party.
Some Democrats don't have the stomach for these tactics but if we don't do it we will live to regret it.

I'm not convinced that Mitt will be the R candidate, but if he is there are a lot of ways to tear him down (he was my governor).

2. Attacking him as a born again gunloon will be effective |
|
He was pro gun control for many years until he decided he wanted to run for president and joined the NRA last August.
The man has made so many major flips since last summer I'm surprised he's not incapacitated by whiplash.
The DNC will have to run negative ads featuring footage of his former positions on a lot of social issues.
It would also be good if they pointed out he's a Stupid type spendthrift who left the state in debt and will do the same to the country, JUST LIKE STUPID HAS.
However, attacking him for being a Mormon is counterproductive.

4. When is the last time fundie RePUKES didn't turn a blind eye to flip flops? |
|
They don't care about flip flops and Jerry Falwell will be out reassuring them about Mitt.

23. This isn't your run of the mill "flip flopper". |
|
(god, I hate that term).
This man is a whore to beat all whores. I'm surprised that McCain's switches are getting so much more attention.
Unfortunately, I think YouTube will take Willard Mitt down long before he gets near the nomination.

5. That would be wasted energy. |
|
The people who won't vote for Romney because of his religion wouldn't vote for our side, either. And we'd turn off Dems like myself if our candidate tries to make religion an issue. The votes to go after, as always, are the swing voters in the middle. Their votes count twice.

8. That would be even more stupid. Our bigger fear needs to be |
|
that the Republicans will accuse us of doing that, even if we aren't. A Democrat attacking someone else, or being viewed by the public as attacking someone else and lying about it, for their religion would be the death of our candidate. Our own party--me included--would turn against them.

The Dems don't have to attack his religion. Just say what it is a few times. The fundies don't believe they are really Christians, but just some cult. Hell, there are people right here on DU that say Mormons aren't Christians.
I hope he does get the nomination because there is no frickin' way this country votes for a morman.

14. I don't disagree. I've known some great people who happened to |

be LDS. But, it seems that the general view on mormonism is that it's one step "above" scientology. That's the perception I witness from lots of folks. Whatever means are employed, that religion thing will have major play. ...O...

11. He'll never get the nomination... |
|
Both his social issue flip-flopping and his religion are deal breakers to the radical christian wing (or the "wackos" as scanlon / abramhoff / Delay calls them)
The GOP will never win a general without the extremist christian soldiers.
Watch who is pandering the hardest for this demographic to see who'll get the nom... right now it's McBush (er, McCain)
I don't see this as much of a problem because in order to secure the fundie demographic he also loses the independents.

We can only hope.
The fundies will stay home if he is the nominee. They are convinced that Mormons are cultists and that he would try to turn the country into a Mormon theocracy. (Pot meet kettle!)
Plus, as noted above, the man's total about-face on so many issues near and dear to them is truly astounding. I can't find it on YouTube, but if you go to Andrew Sullivan's blog, he's got a clip from his gubernatorial debate of just five years ago. He gushes over and over again about how pro-choice he is and practically calls women who chose to have abortions heroic.
I think many fundie heads would explode if they were forced to chose between Mitt the Nit and She-Who-Cannot-Be-Named.

At most, he'll get the VP nom.
You think the fundamentalist Christians who vote GOP no matter who's running will vote for a Mormon? Think again...
