Alert: Draft Gore movement to be featured on NPR's "All Things Considered"
possibly as early as tomorrow morning. I don't know the exact date or time but I did want to make others aware that this was going to be aired in the near future. I found out from Dylan Malone from AlGore.org (one of the Draft Gore websites). Dylan is a friend of ours and he called to tell me that he had finished an interview with a reporter from "All Things Considered" earlier this afternoon. He wasn't sure when the segment would air but it could be as soon as either tomorrow or early next week. The segment is about the growing, people-driven Draft Gore movement. Dylan said he talked about the success AlGore.org has been having with their Draft Al Gore meetups that are springing up around the world.

fwiw, Dylan is a personal friend of the Gore family. He was a guest of the Gore family at the Democratic Convention in L.A. when Al accepted the nomination for president. The Malone and Gore families met when Dylan and his wife were seeking medical help for their son Ian. The hospital had suggested to the Malones that they either adopt their sick child out or take him home to die. Mr. Gore helped the family by bringing their plight to the media's attention at their request. In fact, Gore spoke about Ian that night in his acceptance speech. The story of baby Ian, the Malones and the Gores can be found at: http://babyian.com/story.html

8. Those are some great people
If it is the same group that we met last year, they are great and very active group. My husband helped put them in contact with one of the Gore daughters for a DFA group.

6. Sounds like the segment will either air Friday or Monday
NPR is trying to capitalize on the Oscar buzz. At least that's what I heard from a second source contacted for an interview. ;)

because at the time it was a popular decision and gave Gore a boost.

Thanks to AlGore-08.com for the information reprinted from one of their earlier posts at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=187392&mesg_id=187731

News of Lieberman's selection was followed by a leap in the polls for the Democratic ticket. Lagging by as much as 19 points in opinion polls after the Republican National Convention July 31 to Aug. 3, Gore was just 2 points behind Bush in a USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll released yesterday.

The survey, taken Monday night, showed Bush leading Gore 45 percent to 43 percent. The same polling group had Bush well ahead Aug. 5, with 54 percent of the vote against Gore's 35 percent.

An overnight ABC poll showed that 60 percent of voters approved of Gore's choice for vice president, although two-thirds said they didn't know enough about Lieberman to make a judgment.

18. You really don't have a point do you?
You've just come on this thread to try to find ways to trash Gore.

What is your real motivation for posting on this thread? Because nothing you've said relates to the OP or the Draft Gore movement. What is your motivation? Are you bored or do you just not like Gore supporters and news that they will be on NPR?

25. How am I using you?
You're the one who came on this thread with your non sequitors and all around nonsense. But, if you want to help me understand your motivations for posting what you did, I am more than willing to listen.

Otherwise, thanks for reminding me that there are people who have nothing better to do with their time than to troll DU who attempt to throw grenades into otherwise innocuous threads and then can't really explain why they did it. But now that you mention it, thanks for helping me draw attention to the upcoming piece on NPR and kicking this thread so many times.

Thanks for playing. :hi:

I say let's give the guy WHO WON the popular vote in 2000 a chance to do it again.

And QUICK! the Clinton camp is already throwing mud to get the nomination . . .

On edit-- a Gore-Obama ticket would be truly awesome.

Hillary said the nomination process is too long. It should be shortened.
Then she proceeds to strong arm supporters that they'd better not support anyone else.
I have a problem with that.

35. Dylan says Gore has not asked him to stop like he did in 2002
As you'll recall Al called Leslie Stahl and made the announcement that he would not run in mid-December 2002. At that time Dylan was running a website called algoredemocrats.com that was dedicated to electing Gore in 2004. Because Gore knows the Malone family and knew that Dylan was running a "Gore for President in 2004" website, he called them to let them know he wouldn't be running. Dylan started his draft Gore website the day after the 2004 election. It is now 2007, candidates are declaring and some are already dropping out, yet, people are asking Gore to run more and more often, yet, Gore has not asked Dylan to take down his website. Nor has Gore asked his former assistant, Elaine Kamarck and other politicos to stop their meetings to draft him, he hasn't endorsed anyone and he hasn't ruled out running completely.

Think about it this way, if Gore really wanted the draft talk to stop he would call Leslie Stahl or some media outlet and make it clear that he was not running. He's already waited almost three months longer into this presidential campaign cycle then he did the last one and hasn't ruled it completely out. He's garnering all kinds of support by using the media instead of having the media focus negatively on him. "An Inconvenient Truth" hits the premium cable channels on March 11 and his book "The Assault on Reason" comes out in May. Then he has the concerts. He's getting a lot of attention and most of it is positive. Unitl he says "absolutely not" then I'm not giving up, neither is Dylan.

Last week on "The Situation Room" Dylan said, "Until (Gore) either makes the dreaded Sherman statement and clearly rules out a run or throws his hat into this ring, you know, we're proceeding on our own as grassroots activists. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0702/09/sitroom.02.html

I hope every day that Gore will run. I want it so badly. I will work very hard to get him elected as I know many others will. I hope he knows how many people want him. I know he would win. If you hear any other information please share it with us. Your post made me feel very positive. Thank you.
