one tax bush could repeal/eliminate that would help out a little |
|
in 1983 - Reagan cut taxes - and started taxing unemployment compensation.
as anyone who has received unemployment knows, you receive approximately 2/3's of your previous wages. With the added income tax on it - you receive even less. It makes for tough times.
This week, in our area alone - layoffs from two companies were announced - totaling around 300 people that will be without jobs. Jobs are scarce.
My partner has been laid off since September and has had a couple of interviews, but no offers. I lucked out in finding a new job so quickly, new position opened at the company seeking someone with drafting and graphic design skills - I have both.
if bush really wanted to help out he could repeal the income tax on unemployment compensation or just suspend it for a few years until we dig ourselves out of the mess he's made

1. That would be a huge help to those on unemployments. Also, it makes so much sense since |
|
the person on unemployment has already had a big reduction in income and has been paying taxes for this program already so why tax a benefit for those who have lost their jobs and are seeking employment. Also, a reduction in payroll taxes up to a certain income level and then extend the ceiling on payroll taxes might be a big help for those in lower income groups.

2. He could suspend the 18.4 cent per gal fed tax. |
|
That would help everyone, including the ld haulers who move your food and every other product. THAT should help lower food prices, prices on all other products, and help you out at the pump too!

3. Reagan couldn't pass taxes on anybody. The congress of that period came up with that idiotic notion. |
|
The proposal to tax unemployment benefits should've died in committee.

7. I don't think we're fundamentally disagreeing, just quibbling over a side detail. |
|
Regardless, I agree with your original proposal of repealing the income tax on unemployment income. I think it should be repealed and left out permanently.
