Clay Aiken: "We have a presidential election going on", Britney is "what people are interested in"

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=4116050&page=1

<snip>

"American Idol" alum Clay Aiken echoed 2007's oft-viewed YouTube plea of die-hard Spears fan Chris Crocker: "We have a presidential election going on, and for whatever reason, this is what people are interested in," he told "Entertainment Tonight," Thursday. "I think that is probably the saddest thing. Leave her alone, just leave her alone."

1. Oh, The Irony
A guy who is famous for being famous is telling people that they're not serious enough and it gets reported as news.

This is irony layered on irony.

2. Brave Sir Robin. Seriously. I'm not kidding.
I wanted to go see Spamalot, but I just read that Clay Aiken is starring. Maybe I'll pass until they get someone less...uh...less Clay Aiken.

3. Yeah. That Might Be A Good Decision
A manufactured pop star defending another manufactured pop star and insulting the american public while doing it.

I gonna go with "Pass on it" until the play is Aiken free.

6. Yes
it's sad what Broadway has been doing. When a hit play loses their real talent, they bring in some mid-level TV or popstar to take over. I guess it puts the tourist asses in the seats, but it's a real shame - the best talent in America is relatively unknown and working on Broadway - and they get edged out by the likes of Aiken, or John Stamos, or Brooke Shields.

4. What gets higher ratings: The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer or American Idol?

5. Aiken is apparently not the sharpest tool in the shed.
I seriously doubt that very many people care what the hell Britney does. Unfortunately the media outlets shove crap like that down people's throats because they're too lazy to go after real news. As for Britney, she's a shameless attention seeker from the get-go.

And who cares what Clay Aiken thinks anyway? ABC wasting time on this is just more evidence that the whores aren't doing their job.

8. Do people around here just like to bash stars?
Really, that is the impression I get from these kinds of posts. He makes a valid point and all anyone can do is insult him. But that has been par for the course, so I shouldn't be surprised.

9. Ehhh. Some People Just Bitch About Anything, Ya Know?
Personally, I don't see the problem either.

12. Britney stories get the clicks. It's a fact.
and Britney stories on TV get the viewers. Another sad fact. I suspect people love watching her because it's like watching a slow-motion spectacular plane crash with someone they've "known" since she was 15 with her first album - and there may also be a little schadenfreude mixed in with that too. Many people in my extended family couldn't name the candidates on either side, but know all about Britney's saga, names of her children, court dates, arrest dates, hir birthday, etc. Go to some MSM site and click on "most popular" = most clicks and you will see that the top stories almost always include celebrity/entertainment as "news".

So do the viewers follow the stories so closely because it's shoved down our throats, or does the media keep shoving it down the viewer's throats because that stuff gets the high ratings and the most clicks? It's a chicken and the egg scenario.

So far as Clay Aiken, he is a little bit of a dork to be sure, but the kid can sing pretty well, and he was just trying to get ahead in something he enjoys doing. He dreamed of making it as a singer - and he chose an easier venue (American Idol) over say, singing in a garage band or in local clubs. So the hell what? For that he gets a judgmental indictment of his entire talent and entire life?

7. Wow, what do you have against Aiken?
He was asked his opinion along with a number of other celebrities. And, what you posted is all that was said by him.

As for Spamalot, I read that he is really good in it.

And, for any one who wants to know, I read his book and he is a liberal. He is also a very good person who is using his fame to help others.

You should read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Aiken He is a remarkable person for being "a no talent celebrity", which seems to be the opinion of those replying to this thread.

10. Just keep in mind..........
that people who are so judgemental are usually trying to make themselves feel better. More than likely, Clay Aiken has a lot more going for him than these posters.

11. People have always been more interested in fluff over substance
Different year, different "pop star"; same old story repeated.
