Noted Marathoner Killed In Kenyan Violence...with an arrow
PHOENIX -- A noted Kenyan marathoner who had hoped to compete in the Phoenix-area P.F. Chang's Rock 'N' Roll Marathon two weeks ago has been killed in violence in his home country.
Wesly Ngetich, 34, died on Monday when he was shot in the chest with an arrow during fighting, according to Race Results Weekly.

Ngetich was the 2005 and 2007 men’s champion of Duluth, Minn., Grandma’s Marathon. In 2006, Ngetich set his personal best time of 2:12:10 when he finished second at the Chevron Houston Marathon.

Ngetich had hoped to travel to the Phoenix-area for a marathon in early January, but violence in his hometown of Trans Mara prevented him from leaving.

I guess the old fashioned weapons can be just as deadly as the modern ones.

1. RIP Wesly Ngetich
Jokes come to mind but I won't tell them. It's a terrible situation there.

3. This is so sad.
I have helped out at the P.F Chang marathon and seeing the runners from the continent of Africa zoom by is impressive. This is a terrible loss to the marathon world.

4. Modern hunting tips can kill a deer. No one should find any humor in this.
They can be as deadly as a bullet and are much less humane.

5. They worked very well for twenty thousand years.
No reason to think they won't still.

6. I'm a much better shot with a bow than a gun
I would probably rely on my bows for food/protection if the shit went down.

7. I visit with a man from Kenya each day
and he mentioned this morning that a former gold medal winner was killed last week. He's worried sick since the majority of his family is still in Kenya. A tragic situation in a country that was somewhat stable.
