On the subject of smoking in public places |
|
I started an obviously sarcastic post yesterday advocating legislation that would require all citizens to smoke tobacco in order to obtain a driver's license. I did not include a :sarcasm: emoticon. I thought it was obvious. Therefore, I must post this apology and disclaimer. I grew up in a time when cigarette smoking was socially acceptable. The change of attitudes in the recent years have put those of us who continue the habit on the defensive. We try to slip outside and off to ourselves to light up and slowly kill ourselves, but we still get offended when people talk down to us like we were sub-human. For my part, I would encourage anyone, especially those who have never started smoking, to stay away from cigarettes and the nicotine addiction. I commend all those who have quit and support your efforts to stay quit. I encourage everyone to quit, including me. I hope that I have covered everyone's feelings. That is all.

I am going out on the sidwalk right now and smoke one of each.
Because I can.
We were the first Town to ban trans-fats and plastic bags.
But we can still drink and smoke in the public forum.

2. I am horribly allergic to tobacco smoke |
|
However, if you set fire to that thing outdoors, we'll get along just fine.
There are a few new treatments in the pipeline to help people to quit. They've also discovered that the severity of nicotine addiction depends on two proteins.
There's hope out there for anyone who wants to quit, even if they haven't found the way yet.

3. Wow, that's a nice post. |

Can't fault any of it.
If my posts made any smokers feel sub-human, then I do apologize for that.
I too hope everyone can get the nicotine monkey off their backs. I know firsthand how hard that can be.

6. Thanks. The subject has been |

contentious lately. I tried to lighten it up. I was wrong. Often, my humor is off-time and not funny.

But I try hard not to smoke anywhere but in my own space. In my car, my house. I don't want anyone to have to suffer from my addiction.
But to hell with you all over my chocolate addiction. I'm gonna eat it when ever and wherever I can and if they ever have a smokable chocolate, I'm gonna do that too!
