Such a concerted effort to demonize "trial lawyers" - I wonder why?
Who hates trial lawyers and class action lawsuits?

Corporations who put out shoddy and dangerous products or who mislead and/or defraud people. Perhaps also government officials who engage in illegal, corrupt acts.

Why would any group or person hate the concept of "trial lawyers"? Isn't it one of our fundamental rights to a trial . . . oops, ok never mind.

Maybe because they dislike the concept of "justice" and "accountability". Maybe it goes even deeper and they hate the concept of "trial". You know, that place where there is discovery and rules of evidence and sworn testimony. That place where you can say "I don't recall" as many times as you are able to.

"Trial lawyers" is "retribution" to some people. Nasty. Makes you want to consider buying land in Paraguay.

2. Mostly because of the abuses and excesses of a few
The exception stories make the news and paint them all with the same brush.

You know the stories, "Man spills his coffee in his lap and wins $30 million from restaurant".

9. That would be the jury who awarded that amount... not the lawyer.

4. Trial lawyers, such as John Edwards, threaten our corporate rulers.
Of course the corporations are lawyered up to the gills; but that is different.

The drumbeat against trial lawyers has increased dramatically over the years as the corporate media has gained its stranglehold over the society.

5. Demonizing "trial lawyers" makes you wonder when ...
There was a report a few years ago that suggests a great number of lawyers serve in Congress.

6. When a suit is won, who pays?
Insurance companies. That is the meme that was put out to justify the increases in malpractice insurance even though studies have disputed that settlements caused the loss of profits.

10. Along with all the other reasons already stated, trial lawyers are among the most likely occupations

to understand the meaning of the Constitution, hence if you want to put a despot in power claiming extraordinary-Constitutional powers and turn our democratic republic in to autocratic rule and creeping fascism, one of the first steps would be to demonize the people best versed in Constitutional Law.

As they've already taken over the "free press" to a large extent, hollowed out the military while growing corporate owned mercenary outfits, created prisons for profit, demonizing attorneys would be a logical step as well in enslaving the American People to corporate or oligarch rule.

However the dumb ass corporations and oligarchs are riding on the back of a tiger and at some point a despot will demonize and turn on them as well.
