Philip Morris loses again
The Oregon Supreme Court, for the third time, has ruled that Philip Morris has to pay the $79.5 million punitive damages verdict rendered against it back in 1999:

Court upholds $79.5 million smoker verdict

The Oregon Supreme on Thursday upheld a $79.5 million punitive damage award against Philip Morris that has twice been overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The most recent reversal concerned a jury instruction and whether it violated the constitutional rights of Philip Morris. But the Oregon Supreme Court said Philip Morris incorrectly submitted the jury instruction so there was no violation.

Yes, at this stage Philip Morris has been reduced to arguing that a jury instruction it submitted and asked the trial court to give to the jury violated its constitutional rights. This was not one of the original grounds or assignments of error in Philip Morris' appeal, but it's apparently all it has left.

Pay up, you murderous motherfuckers.

2. K&R. I've heard these companies are still marketing cigarettes in Third World countries in ways
they'd never get away with here, not any more.

Corporations being amoral as they are, it would surprise me if they DIDN'T.
