2 mentally retarded female bombers strike Baghdad pet market
if this isn't the most bizarre headline ......

How sick can human beings be? There is apparently no limit

BAGHDAD - Remote-controlled explosives strapped to two mentally retarded women detonated in a coordinated attack on Baghdad pet bazaars Friday, police and Iraqi officials said, killing at least 73 people in the deadliest day since the U.S. sent 30,000 extra troops to the capital this spring.

The chief Iraqi military spokesman in Baghdad, Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, claimed the female bombers had Down syndrome and that the explosives were detonated by remote control, indicating they may not having been willing attackers in what could be a new method by suspected Sunni insurgents to subvert stepped up security measures.

Bolstering that claim, local police said the woman in the first attack sold cream in the morning at the market and was known to locals as "the crazy lady."

1. And a pet market is most likely to hurt innocents: children and animals. nt

2. 'The crazy lady?' Because she had Down Syndrome?
Jeez, maybe we shouldn't liberate them.

3. it has been my suspicion all along that many of the "suicide" bombers
are coerced or forced into it.

11. I can't find the link (it was over a year ago), but
I read that child was told to deliver a package to some stall in a market and that when he got into a crowd, the people who gave the boy the box detonated it remotely.

Another story I read was how a boy was shot dead and when the family came to gather the body, it had been filled with explosives.

What do you do? Turn you back on the matter? Give peace a chance? Sounds like the bloody path to me. (how many peace-nick Christians had to die in the coliseum before Rome gave up the blood sport? Peace finally won, but at the cost of thousands who wouldn't pick up the sword.)

15. Rome did not give up blood sport because of Christianity
Rome officially Christian under Constantine the Great in early 330s. Blood sport continued until Rome fell in 470ish.

Not sure of exact dates. However, the textbook example of Christian being fed to lions really did not happen that much.

6. This morning's CNN anchor called them "mentally unstable"

The anchor, not the reporter - the reporter didn't correct the anchor, though.

9. It sounds like the "prison for children" which they "liberated."
And then it turned out to be an orphanage.

Police initially said the bomb at al-Ghazl market was hidden in a box of birds but determined it was a suicide attack after finding the woman's head, an officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.

One pigeon vendor said the market had been particularly busy because it was a pleasantly crisp and clear winter day after a recent cold spell.

"I have been going to the pet market with my friend every Friday, selling and buying pigeons," said Ali Ahmed, who was hit by shrapnel in his legs and chest. "It was nice weather today and the market was so crowded."

10. Horrible
Don't they know they're supposed to take their most economically disadvantaged children, pump them full of patriotic rhetoric, then arm them to the teeth to blow away civilians when they get scared? Like a civilized nation would! Savages.
