Warporn? WARPORN?!
Every now and then the wingnuts forget to pretend that they don't get off on war and death. "Culture of life" my ass.

http://hotair.com/archives/2008/02/01/warporn-new-navy-railgun-sets-records-for-megajoules-awesomeness/">This post at Michelle Malkin's "Hot Air" includes a clip demonstrating some impressive new railgun technology invented by the Navy. Instead of being presented with appropriate awe, it is presented with all-too revealing glee. The poster, Allahpundit, notes at the end of his writeup, "I … have to go lie down again." Yeah, with a jar of Vaseline and some Kleenex.

Sick. Fucks.

1. I have to admit
rail guns have always been a sci fi favorite. with the weaponry here I am actually kind of scared, long range supersonic bullets able to peirce anything, we have got to get war under control before it consumes us.

4. I love me some rail guns... but not war
I always enjoy using the rail gun in first person shoot games. Bang-splat!

Also, if we ever get to the point on mining the Moon, rail guns will be useful in launching payloads into lunar orbit.

The technological advancement necessary to build this weapon will have other peaceful uses, and war isn't always avoidable.

It's not cause for celebration either (which was my point).

protect the rich and gather resources. We just happen to live where the rich live. Soon enough, we will be expendable, if we aren't already.

6. Watch it on the Military Channel
Which was once a fairly interesting "Wings Channel". I still watch it occasionally for some interesting technology and history.

I think some "fans" watch "Future Weapons" and think that with this technology, we should be invincible. Blowback and asymetric strategy are probably never discussed.

8. wiki has info on it
A railgun is a form of gun that converts electrical energy (rather than the more conventional chemical energy from an explosive propellant) into projectile kinetic energy. It is not to be confused with a coilgun (Gauss gun). Rail guns use magnetic force to drive a projectile. Unlike gas pressure guns, rail guns are not limited by the speed of sound in a compressed gas, so they are capable of accelerating projectiles to extremely high speeds.

I think it was used in the movie Eraser with Ahnold

20. No, they actually do exist, and have for some time.
They just aren't being produced and used by any military forces
at the moment (that we know about).

11. I used to get a stiffy messing with guns...
then I hit puberty and discovered girls.

Guns can be interesting, they can even be works of art, but the adoration/lust that some feel for weapons is unseemly.

16. Check the sales demographics for military history
It is, shall we say, disproportional to the population. Think hockey.
