Poll question: was moveon.org wrong for endorsing a candidate |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 03:20 PM by fenriswolf
just wanted to see how this pans out.
wrong meaning they should have stayed politically neutral
right meaning as a political orginization it is within their power to choose a canidadate. especially if they chose based off of membership poll

1. I'm done with them. Plus, locally, when they got together like 4 people showed. |
|
and most were of the gadfly type.
So, no great loss for me.

10. In the '04 Election, MoveOn put up a bigger fight than the Democratic Party did. |
|
I worked with both groups.
MoveOn was more effective than the Dems.
Our local dem office was like the DeadZone.

Particularly here in Michigan ... MoveOn is FAR more involved and active. Hell... the "Dems" have thrown Michigan under the bus.

I tried to get Kerry signs and they told me, and I quote:
"Lawn signs don't vote".
MoveOn, conversely, had coordinated efforts, people on the ground, massive meetings and they made me WORK.... I was out knocking on door from 6:00 to 8:00 almost every night, and after that, I had to do an accounting of my canvassing.

2. I'm not a moveon member nor am I all that familiar with their 'rules' ..... but ...... |
|
..... I am almost certain anytime they do something like this it is after a poll of their membership.
If that's the case, then who are we to say what's right or wrong?

3. They poll their members |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 03:33 PM by CC
and let them decide so I don't see why they shouldn't. I have seen where they have polled and it was so close they decided not to support any one candidate and to revisit it at a later time.

5. Personally , it seems that Organizations like MoveOn, |
|
just like DU have individuals who support different Candidates.
It just seems Individuals can and should support and if they wish go out and campaign for the Candidate of their Choice.
It just seems the Organization should remain neutral util the actual Election. Then Everyone get behind the Democratic Candidate. The Website at that time goes all out to suuport the Democrat.
I was an Edwards Supporter and now support Hilary. It would hurt if the Website chose one above the other even if had been my candidate.
This is just one person's opinion.

7. MoveOn handled this very badly |
|
They really should have published the results of the poll but, not have said it was any kind of endorsement.

16. I worked for them in recent election for Ky guv and I am so disappointed in them |
|
NOW. I would feel this way whichever way the group selected. It is not appropriate for a dem group like Move-on to choose between two important new directions in the dem party.

17. Did Move-on hold a poll? If so, I was not cognizant of it. It is decidedly |

inappropriate to take sides in the primary season.

18. PDA did a straw poll in the fall and has changed their endorsement |
|
as candidates have dropped out: Kucinich- Edwards- Obama. Well, I recently got someone to join who is a Hillary supporter and she got pissed off when she saw them endorse Obama. She didn't know about the straw poll. At this point I think it would probably been better for PDA to say nothing, since most of the dyed in the wool members aren't heavy hitters for Obama or Clinton, and choosing one of them just irritates the others supporters. For some reason it takes a lot of restraint to make NO ENDORSEMENT.

Doesn't make one difference to me who anyone endorses.
I heard some of the complaints...they should be neutral, this and that, the Betrayus thing...but I really don't care who they support...doesn't change my mind one bit.
I am a member...although I've never donated.

21. I'm a Clinton supporter and it's neither right nor wrong. It's a legitimate thing to do, |
|
and it's up to each member to decide if it something they want to support.
