1. Very nice
While I have a regular plate, I have a "Jail to the Chief" sticker on my truck. (Among others)

5. VW squareback, hadn't seen one of those in years
drove beetles for years though, prolly close to a half million miles actually. My last beetle would leave most autos on the road in its dust, 88 jugs, a high lift cam and carbs from a 356 porche

14. yes I do
If what I remember is right that is, a friend had a dune buggy with a stock 60 horse engine that would give my warmed up beetle a run for its money due to its light weight but on top end I would leave him but on takeoff it was close, sometimes he sometimes me. My younger brother still has his ghia with a 2380 cc highly modified aftermarket engine that with the cam he has in it it idles at 3500 rpm's. Its the quickest street legal car I have ever driven bar none. Pretty awesome sound coming from a four banger I might add

15. They pretty much pioneered the aftermarket .....
..... speed/performance biz for VWs. Carbs, cams, heads, headers, cylinders, pistons, etc., etc.

I had a 57 semaphore signal split window with a hotted up 64 engine in it and a 64 with a mildly tuned engine.

Nothing near as fast as what you describe, though.

24. wouldn't you love to have that car now,
that is if you don't. One of my friends had a 57 I think it was split window that was a cherry that I would love to have today. My wife has given me permission to buy another one for a project car but I haven't found the right one yet. I had found it, a '73 model with 27,000 original miles on it that by the time I had the nerve to ask her about it it had already sold. 2500 bucks was what it sold for but when I looked at it it was priced at 3500. In '72 I bought a brand new bright assed red one for a little over 2200 bucks. Back in my VW days I was a dozer operator and during the winter months we would shut down and draw unemployment so I would go over to the bug shop and work for cash, how I do miss those days.

reminiscing here this morning

30. Nope, I don't have it anymore ...... but, from about the same era ......
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 01:34 PM by Husb2Sparkly
.... I still have my 1959 Bug Eye Sprite. I bought it in 63 or 64 ... not sure when, exactly. I've had it since then. It was restored two times and raced for a while, but is once again in pieces, spread all over the garage in boxes. But its totally compete with lots of original OEM spares and has all new sheet metal in place, so its rust free. One of these years I'll put it back together ....... or my kids will! :)

Next year it will be 50 years old ..... maybe for that birthday?

On edit: To the OP ...... sorry to hijack your thread! At least we're keeping it kicked! :hi:

33. Check out thesamba...
If you guy/gals enjoy the old VWs, check out thesamba at: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/

That site was invaluable in restoring my 1964 sunroof bug after I converted it to electricity for commuting. Lots of resources there: Pictures and many VWs for sale as well as forums to learn how to fix them and keep them running. People love those VWs...

I kinda like the squarebacks too, but I must admit to liking the notchbacks a little more.

9. Good one!
I passed a car that had a Ron Paul sticker on one side and a "911 was an inside job" on the other.

I didn't know what to make of that.

 There's one near where I live that reads "WISDUMB," but considering the Bush/Cheney stickers plastered right above it, I don't think that's quite the meaning the owner intended. ;) :hi:
