It's been 3+ years since mom died (12/31/2004). And it got me to thinking...
I have seen a lot of death in my time, from best friends to close family friends.
They did not care about all these little things we yell at each other about - from smoking in bars to having to have permits to have garage sales.
All they wanted to do was have a simple life and be allowed to live their life as they saw fit. Have some freedom, etc.
And here we find ourselves facing the things we do now - wire taps, people checking into what books we have checked out, our own government listening into our phone calls and emails.
Freedom? That is something that we used to have and hoped for.
This is DU - the underground. And that is what strikes me as so damned sad. That the underground is now comprised of the people who want basic freedoms.
Once the mainstream was filled with people wanting freedoms, and now it is filled with one thing.
Death.
The death of freedom came upon us without so much as an obituary.
I have been to more than 10 funerals over the past few years. And one thing I have learned is that death is final. You cannot bring back my mom or my friends, X wife, etc.
This death though, we can change. This death we can turn back.
All it takes is WE standing up.
