My 12-YO daughter has just come up with a suggestion. |
|
She says we should hook the candidates up to a lie detector during the debates.
Smart kid, huh?

3. Yeah. Except that lie detectors can be beaten by liars |
|
But there is no doubt that your daughter has the right idea.

5. They are not really reliable |
|
Liars who believe their own lies pass, for instance, * and Cheney would pass.
They are investigative tools only. It's tempting to think we can read minds, but we can't.

If we can't have lie detectors I say we should frisk them for hidden ear mics, etc. ... only because we can't, as someone else said in response to this in another thread, have them debate naked ;)
Seriously though, after the hump in Bush's suit, why wouldn't we demand they have no hidden audio assistance?

10. How about one of those electric... |

dog shock collars instead. Every bullshit line gets a sustained zap!
Your daughter is clever, but - at her age - the sweet thing lacks the red-meat hostility necessary in the "current" political climate. (pun intended)

Minus: it would overload the machines and cause them to explode
plus: exploding lie detector machines would make for good TV

So it wouldn't register on the lie detector.
