Several months ago, in a surprising move, Karl Rove resigned from the White House staff.

"I've been working several years, online and icognito developing a few covert identities. I plan on taking the next year working out of my basement to disrupt the opponents of the Republican party. With the help of some other full-time Freeper bloggers, I will be constantly dividing the Democratic Party." states Karl.

Karl's work has been highly successful over the last few months. You can see some of him and his proxies work by going to the infamous website, DemocraticUnderground. Proxy posters have driven the DU into a state of madness by posting smears, innuendos, name-calling and every other dirty trick in Karl's handbook.

"I have a good feeling about this coming election. With all the Democrats pissed off at each other, none of them will be voting. Hehe. It's all a numbers game anyway. This way we win back the House and Senate. Plus a few key governorships." says Karl, "Those Democrats are so unorganized. Not an ounce of loyalty in 'em."

The trolls really had to work hard to attack DU and it appears to be working.

I was just thinking today about what other sites there are for the kind of discourse that (used to) take place at DU and I don't know of many. So the fact that DU is under attack is no surprise. If they "take" DU, a big source of left-wing communication will disappear. DU has been muted prior to this full-on assault--the media never mentioned DU though other sites were mentioned--as though DU is not mainstream. DU is mainstream but there are those who would love to keep it in underground status.

that I could not find in the next two lifetimes, probably, but maybe whoever posted it before will see this thread.

he saw DU as a place to vent. I don't think he necessarily sees this as a politically productive site. so, sure, one of the original ratfuckers is smart enough to recognize the benefit of flaming on a site such as this. why not? people w/o any official affiliation do that too, on both sides of the aisle.

however, whether or not Rover, etc. is trying to fuel flames, those posts really do not work. I think there should be a few mods who should vet gd-p posts and simply refuse to post those that use lies as headlines or try to smear the other candidate in the primaries.

those who hate both candidates and don't want to support either could also have their posts limited to gd-p.

I know this would piss off some people, but I think more people would read things here if they didn't have to filter out the crap. It doesn't work if the post gets up anyway, no matter if it is locked. the hit is there for whoever sees it. I don't think this is a free speech issue. this is a privately owned site whose purpose is to support democratic /progressive candidates, etc.

If someone is using a deliberate disruptive strategy, it's foolish to think you can ignore it... just ask John Kerry about the Swift Boaters.

But I often wonder if they think they've won if a direct attack goes unanswered. Granted, their arguments are usually pretty lame, but I never learned to argue well - though I do know better than to argue while angry and I've learned a lot about their (lack of) logic and general methods of attack here, on DU.

A well-thought, calm and logical argument attacking the faulty basis for their statements has worked for me in the past and I've seen some DU hero's absolutely shred freeper lurkers on more than one occasion.

The best arguments I've seen:

2) WTF does that have to do with the OP or my comment?
3) Link Please.
4) WTF kind of (Freeper) logic is THAT?
5) No, I don't believe it's a conspiracy theory. I accept any bizarre news related to the current administration as fact until proven otherwise. Is there anything they've been accused of over the past seven years that hasn't turned out to be true?
