1. I don't know for sure but Rayguns quit the Democratic Party in the |
|
mid-50's or early 60's. I know he ran as a Republican for Gov of CA in 1966.

2. Reagan elected governor of california as repub in 1966; mccain shot down in nam in 1967 |
|
So the answer to your question is that there's no inconsistency in mccain's statement

3. Yes, Reagan started his political life as a Democrat |
|
but he switched to the Republicans after he said the Democratic Party had "left him". This was around the time he wrote a letter implying that JFK's New Frontier programs were part of a "Marxist Plot," or words to that effect. Reagan was also quite the Red-baiter even when was a Democrat, IIRC. However, by the time McCain was a POW Reagan had long switched over to the Republicans, and was already governor of California.

4. Nancy Reagan "inspired" Ronnie's switch and it was well before McC's |

POW years.
I happen to know some of the Davis family; the elder Mrs. Davis was a very kind and gentle lady (albeit of course quite conservative) but Nancy was (at least when I knew her) a walking, talking, vat of acidic bile. My mom was helping with a foundation grant the Davis's had given to the state school for the developmentally disabled so she had the "privilege" of working closely with both.
She hated Mrs. Reagan until her dying day.

6. I think if I recall correctly.... |
|
and you'll need to check this, that Reagan was the President of the Screen Actors Guild and ratted out "suspected communists" to the McCarthy hearings to help create the Hollywood Blacklist"....But yeah-he was a "Democrat" until he made money....I DO have a name for this kind of Political catharsis.....

7. He was a union member and president of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) |
|
That suited his economic self-interest.
Then, when it suited his economic self-interest to switch to the Republican party, he did so.
It was all about his economic self-interest at the time.
