Rachel Maddow should lay off bashing New York sports teams |
|
I've been a daily listener of hers since Air America began. Her attitude towards NY teams is making it difficult for me to listen to her recently. Yesterday she wouldn't even refer to the Giants by name. She just called them the team that beat the patriots and actually play in New Jersey. Sour grapes does not become a woman of her stature and intelligence.
Rachel - I love you but you're alienating this long time listener.

She lives in Massachusetts |
|
at least on the weekends. That's where her heart is.
I never heard any of my relatives from MA or RI have one kind word to say about any team from NY or NJ - and vice versa - the NY relatives never say anything nice about a Boston or New England team.
I don't understand the expressions of perplexity here.

7. I have gained a new respect for Rachel Maddow. Well, she |
|
was already high on my list but the fact that she is a sports fan makes her even cooler in my book. Yeah, she could be more sportsmanlike and congratulate the Giants fans, but damn all that and a sports fan too?! She's awesome!
And it is true, like it or not, about alienating voters via sport teams. Hillary would be doing a lot better in Illinois if she hadn't switched from Cubs to Yankees. I doubt anyone in NY believes she is a Yankee fan and Cub fans like me say, 'There is no coming back once you leave.' Not basing MY vote on her decision, but I know others have.

I'm sure many of the New Yorkers who live across the river in New Jersey because they can't afford to live in New York support them being called the New York Giants, though.
Whether it's just across the river or all the way down to Bridgeton, New Jersey is New Jersey...Not New York. The same goes for the Jets, though no one wants to claim them anyway. Besides those two teams, that I can think of, has a name different from the state they actually reside in.

20. If New York wants their giants back - build them a fricking stadium |
|
That's New Jersey that's been hosting both the Giants and the Jets for well over a decade I believe. It's just as annoying that the Live Earth people said that the US concert was held in New York - it wasn't. It was held in New Jersey. And it was very insultive that every musician (except a few like Bon Jovi) would scream "HELLO NEW YORK" when they were clearly entrenched in the swamplands known as the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

Owners of the Eagles attempted to build the stadium across the river in Camden. Season ticket holders threatened to abandon their tickets if they had to cross the bridge. We were able to keep our team in the city.

often it speaks of family traditions and regional pride - as well as having fun and being frustrated and nostalgic for childhood and the good old days. You know - human emotions. It's an interest that you don't share. It doesn't mean it's trivial.
