I thought that they were mostly a 'midwestern' phenomena.

9. When we lived in Lincoln, NE we saw 5 tornadoes out the window from General Aviation terminal

one late summer day some years ago. Hubby is general aviation pilot and he was filling out paperwork after returning from a trip with our kids. I was picking them up, and could hardly believe what I was seeing. None of them came into town.

20. They are moving west now. Jackson, Tennessee hit at Union Hill College and the hospital.

There is a huge tornado on the ground near the Shiloh Battlefield, moving 75-80 miles per hour headed towards Nashville.
Huntsville, Alabama TV on live streaming now: baseball sized hail at Shiloh. Students trapped at the student center at Union Hill College. Hospital hit in Jackson.
It was nearly 80F today in the Tennessee Valley, we knew it would be a rough night, and I have a job interview at 1:45 p.m. tomorrow, and no idea of when I can get any sleep tonight!
The main line of storms is still off to the west and headed east.

21. Memphis & Jackson got hammered

There were multiple tornadoes in Memphis a couple of hours ago, not sure how many actually touched down though. I've heard reports of 3 collapsed buildings in Memphis - a wall collapsed at a Sears store in the Hickory Ridge mall. Tractor trailers were blown from the parking lot up inside the building at a warehouse in Southaven and 14 people were trapped in a warehouse in southeastern Memphis. A friend on the Memphis police said the southern part of the city is an absolute mess. No reports of deaths or major injuries but plenty of minor injuries & broken bones. Lots of downed trees & power lines. Some areas blocked off because of live power lines down.

I think Jackson TN was hit even harder. I've heard reports of the roof collapsing at a dorm at Union University in Jackson with people trapped inside. TN Highway patrol is reporting at least 15 tractor trailers are overturned on Interstate 40 between Memphis & Jackson.

There are more reports of tornadoes in eastern AR right now & the next line of storms should be crossing the river in a little while so were aren't out of the woods yet although it's not expected to be as severe as the first line.
