My conversation with a right wing conservative tonight |
|
Tonight my book club met -
A right wing conservative told me I must be really happy tonight as the choices were McCain, Clinton, or Obama. I was floored as I explained to him that I was actually an Edward's supporter.
This brought to mind that he and I had something in common - the media has chosen our candidates. The right and the left are not happy - the media has not only chosen the candidates for the left, but the candiates for the right as well.
Is this the common ground?

1. I don't know, but Matthews sure has one heck of a mancrush on McCain. |
|
The media does not have COMPLETE control over the process, but one would be a fool to deny that they don't have a considerable effect.

5. Well, he said that, "we [the press] are McCain's base" and... |
|
When he was promoting his book, he said that John McCain deserves to become President. Just this week he was talking to McCain and he said, "you know that you're in my heart."
When McCain won Florida, he was overjoyed.
You are right, though, he does seem to favor Obama over Hillary. He HATES Hillary, apparently.

9. a few weeks ago he was on it was either leno or letterman |
|
and he spoke very highly of hillary -- how when you're with her she tucks her legs under her butt and drinks her coca cola and she's very warm and friendly. on the other hand, he said when you're in a room where obama is speaking it's a "spiritual experience" that moves you to tears.

6. Matthews thing about manly Republicans went past "mancrush" when he talked about |
|
Fred Thompson's smell and how masculine it was. Chrissy is as latent a Log Cabin Republican as I've ever seen.

4. Well, anything you have in common is common ground. |

But Huckabee has had substantial wins tonight. That didn't make him happy either?
Both of you need to sit down and discuss the nature of democracy. What is necessary to get the truth of a candidate to the voters? What should be screened out? Do people need to be "inspired" in order to vote their own interests? What's missing in the process?

7. I have sent him a "late night e-mail" |
|
I find it very interesting that his take is that the liberals are okay with 'the final three." I asked him if he thinking that Huckabee and Romney have been "Edwardized."
He's one of these "abortions and gays" issues republicans. He despises McCain. I have discussed this with other "right wing" people and explained that these are what I consider smoke screens and that the republicans will never truly address these issues as once decided, they will lose their base.

10. Why would Democrats be happy with McCain? |
|
Just because Limbaugh has declared him a liberal, doesn't make him one.

11. Except McCain is a rightwinger |
|
Clinton and Obama are certainly more moderate and not very likely to thrill progressives, but I just don't get the disconnect re McCain. I read on this site that the right wing radio shows rail against him, but for the life of me I can't understand why. Dude's about as far right as can be, and every conservative republican I know is voting for him.
