Tornado watch now for Northern AL as well: Report
Statement as of 10:00 PM CST on February 05, 2008

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Tornado Watch for portions of

northern and central Alabama
eastern Louisiana
much of Mississippi
southern middle Tennessee

Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 1000 PM
until 500 am CST.

Tornadoes... hail to 1.5 inches in diameter... thunderstorm wind
gusts to 70 mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these
areas.

The Tornado Watch area is approximately along and 80 statute
miles east and west of a line from 20 miles north of Muscle
Shoals Alabama to 55 miles east southeast of Natchez Mississippi.

Remember... a Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings.

Discussion... line of strong to severe storms along the MS river will
track eastward across parts of MS and al through the late evening
and overnight hours. Damaging winds will be possible along this
line... while isolated cells ahead of the line continue to pose a
risk of hail and isolated tornadoes.

Aviation... tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail
surface and aloft to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface
wind gusts to 60 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to
450. Mean storm motion vector 24040.
