I just got an email that's been forwarded a few times...I don't have permission to use sender's name. The author of the email has requested the email be distributed, but I feel funny about putting his name down as well as the sender's. I'm against the war, but totally support the troops and I find this info hard to believe. Take it for whatever it's worth. Maybe somebody can check it out.
Here's what it says:

Subject: Fw: STARBUCKS/MILITARY
Guess I won't be drinking Starbucks anymore!
Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee. So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street -to-street and house-to-house. If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more. Semper Fidelis.
Sgt. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX 1st Force Recon Co 1st Plt PLT PLEASE DON'T DELETE THIS . . ALLOW IT TO BE PASSED TO ALL IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO SUPPORT THEM OR NOT! ! ! Also, don't forget that when the Twin Trade Towers were hit the fire fighters and rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for the survivors and workers! and Starbucks charged them! ! !
JUST A NOTE TO THIS;
STARBUCKS HAD STORES ON SEVERAL MILITARY BASES IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE NOW BEING REMOVED BECAUSE OF THIS. GO GET 'EM AMERICA . STAND-UP FOR OURSELVES!
Semper Fidelis,
SLO

I'm a multiple military mom and I subscribe to a number of newsletters...so I usually I hear about morale-oriented controversies.

shouldn't the MILITARY (with our tax dollars) be supplying coffee to the troops?
Even if this crap were true, why on earth should a private business supply the troops with coffee?

17. The DOD does supply coffee to the troops |
|
But it is GI coffee, suspect these guys liked starbucks better than the mil-spec stuff the quartermaster is required to issue.

:sarcasm:
We wouldn't want to spoil their fun with FACTS, would we?
:sarcasm:
After all, Starbucks pays health insurance for part-time employees and offers educational reimbursement, among other benefits. You won't get rich there, but the health insurance coverage alone is a pretty damn big deal for a lot of people.

p.s. I hope you're feeling well after the big scare, and everything is going fine for you. ;-)

12. got this too. i think the troops have bigger fish to fry than not getting starbucks. |
|
.....and if it's that important to the troops, then the defense dept. should shell out some chump change from the trillions that they are funneling into the defense budget. starbuck's is a business. they don't have an obligation to provide their products to the military.
The question should really be: where the fuck is all the kazillions of dollars budgeted to the defense going?--besides the $2000 toilet scrubber.
p.s. I don't go to starbucks anyways just because I have this thing about spending $5 for a stinking cup of coffee. no thanks.

14. Oh I got this same BS back in '03 |
|
It's never been true.
Starbucks doesn't even have the base contracts anyways, so there aren't any Starbucks to "take out".

I sure dont. My brother doesn't drink coffee either, and he works his ass off 60 hours a week! No problem for him to get out of bed, so why not the same for those who think they "need" their morning coffe?

I'll not bother but you should check the validity of anything before you forward it, methinks.

23. The question is, what are you going to do about it? |
|
The thing to do would be to "reply all" with the snopes link and info, and remind people that the author of this (whether he's actually a sergeant, or more likely not) is a lying dirtbag, and EVERYONE who passed this along without checking on it is an accomplice to that.
