Didnt we talk back a few weeks ago about how she was the first women to win a US primary?

because I've just gone to cite her Wiki in a discussion elsewhere, and that particular fact appears to be missing...

Have I got a wrong women?, because I distinctly remember reading it then.

Thanks

1. I don't think she won a primary at all...
...I was around then--high school--and I recall following her campaign very closely.

5. This is bugging me but I found this:

Sorry, but that's incorrect as well (as I had to pay the Times Select fee to learn): Chisholm DID win the statewide Primary, as only she and Terry Sanford were listed on it. McGovern, however, won most of the delegates on county-level voting. He won the delegates, she won the primary.

I checked at the local library and found the Congressional Quarterly Guide to US Elections (2nd edition: 1985), which, on page 423, gives the results of the 6/6/72 New Jersey Democratic Primary as:

Chisholm 51,433
Sanford 25,401

No other candidates appeared on the ballot.

I wonder if this could be verified by anyone?

oh and

6. Here it was a non-binding primary
In 1972, George McGovern defeated Hubert Humphrey in the race for New Jersey's Democratic delegates. On the same ballot, there was also a nonbinding primary for presidential preference, in which neither of the front-runners participated. The winner of this race was Shirley Chisholm, who won about two thirds of the vote to defeat former North Carolina Gov. Terry Sanford.
