Restaurants as obesity cops don't sit well

They say the proposed bill, still in committee, is "ridiculous," "insane" and a wrong-headed approach to solving the national obesity epidemic.

State Rep. John Read, a Republican who is one of the bill's three authors, says he wasn't trying to offend anybody and never even expected the plan to become law. 1. While I don't think there needs to be a law

I really enjoy visiting restaurants that serve smaller portions on smaller plates. My eating habits have changed siginificantly over the years. I don't patronize all-you-can-eat places anymore. I rarely feel like the expense is worth it for the amount of self-serve food I can consume. I really don't enjoy the feeling of leaving a place stuffed to the gills either.

But, give me a place with lovely decor, quiet ambiance, small dishes where I can taste several, and great service and I'm happy! And a terrific tipper too.
