Conservatives don't want a President , they want a Political Pawn
The reason Conservatives like Rush Limbuagh and James Dobson don't support John McCain is because they prefer someone that is intellectually weak and someone they can mold to suit their agenda - i.e. George W. Bush. This is the real reason John McCain is not supported by conservatives.
The Heritage Foundation won't be setting the Agenda if McCain is President. His Judicial Nominees won't all come from the Federalist Society (maybe a few) and this is the true problem with him.

1. Oh for God's sake, this admiring bullshit of the McCain Maverick Myth has GOT TO FUCKING STOP!!!
McCain has FELLATED everyone in the highest echelons of the Republican and conservative establishment, including Falwell and Bush, to get where he is now. HE'S NOT A MAN OF PRINCIPLE!! They don't like him because he's a narcissistic glory-seeking self-aggrandizing bastard, not because he has the occasional independent position. GIVE IT A FUCKING REST!!!

4. Agree
McCain is not a man of principle but he wouldn't be as easy to manipulate as Shrub. All said, McCain would be a disastrous president.

5. The Bush-Cheney thing was a fluke. McCain isn't going to have a stage-whispering
VP--the Repub party really IS desperately seeking a conservative leader, not a figurehead with the real power behind the curtain, like Chimpy and Shooter. They want that leader to carry out the neocon plan and the Repub agenda on his own. They don't like McCain because they know he's mostly in it for himself--not because he can't be manipulated into taking certain positions (he's already proven that he will suck up to anyone for power), but because he doesn't much care about Republicans and conservatism. He just uses them as a vehicle--he's not a true believer, and never was. It's no different than if we nominated Joe Lieberman or Ben Nelson on our side--we'd know they didn't really, deep down, give a shit about Progressives.

11. At this point they don't know what they want.
They're all a bunch of whiners and complainers. They thought they knew what was best for the country. They thought they were right and everyone else was wrong. Now that the shit is hitting the fan they want to grumble about how they've been betrayed by Bush and their party when all they've done for the last 7 years is cheer him on. "Waaaah! I'm voting Democrat cause I don't like McCain." Bullshit! They're voting Democrat because their fucked up choices are about to come back and bite them on the ass and they know it.
