My Republican Senator says McCain "not suited for presidency" |
|
Thad Cochran (R) Mississippi says in comments published in the Boston Globe: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic, he's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me." So take that John McCain.
Okay which one of you DUers is my Senator?

2. A rare moment of honesty from a Repub Senator. Those words will |
|
come back to haunt McCain in the fall. MY Repub Senator, Hagel, was McCain's campaign co-chair in 2000. Hagel is curiously silent this time around--perhaps he feels the same way?

3. I would like to think he's being honest but the fact is that the |
|
neo-con fascists, who have been defining the Republican Party in the decades since Eisenhower, don't like McCain because he isn't as radical as them on many of their dearly held principles. That doesn't mean that McCain is a peach. He's just as wacky as them on other points.

5. If McCain isn't suited for the presidency, what is Cochran's idea of a suitable president? |

Romney? Digging up the carcas of Ronald Reagan and having Nancy do the "governing"(again)? I really feel like we are witnesses to the destruction and split of the Republican Party.

6. I hope you are mostly right |

I'd like the split to be slow and painful and last for years. cochran originally supported thompson but now he's in love with romney.

7. I don't know where the Republicans can go ... |
|
If this was a two person race, I think it would be really close. As is I think McCain will win pretty handily.
This type of statement is being made by ALL kinds of Republicans. If they cannot rally their base to the polls on election day, they cannot beat either Hillary or O'Bama. Plus I think there is a serious threat that with all the McCain bashing coming from the right there could be a 3rd party conservative candidate added to the ticket. An Alan Keys on the ballot could drain a lot of hard right conservative voters away from McCain.
In the meantime, Romney is going to need a LOT of cash to continue at the rate he is going. If the cons are dead set against both McCain it could be forthcoming.
So I guess ... here's to John McCain, Anne Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, et al for sabotaging this campaign. Perhaps they have longer term goals in mind. Maybe they don't want a Republican to preside over the inevitable Iraq pullout so they can accuse Democrats of being soft for the next 30 years (ala Vietnam).

8. I will be surprised (if a dem wins the white house) |
|
if the republicans aren't calling for impeachment by Mother's Day next year. Anything that bush has fucked up will be blamed on the democrats starting 10 seconds after the next democratic president is inaugurated. Its all part of the conservative values package.
