The Canadian Dollar is on parity |
|
with the American dollar. Right there you can see how fucked up our economy is--back in 2000, the dollar was about 1.53 in comparison. I'm sure we've had parity before, but I've been paying attention for awhile now, and the parity with Canada is continuing, a trend that doesn't bode too well for America in the future. I do however, applaud Canada's economy for getting a strong edge against us. That means my relatives are now worth the same as us US cousins.

1. Simply stated: Investors trust the Canadian economy more, |
|
and the US economy less.
It´s not rocket science. It´s a matter of trust.

7. Yep. THAT was a shocker! |
|
I've lived NORTH of Canada (Detroit) most of my life and was SHOCKED when I realized that the Canadian dollar had passed us by!
They have since reigned it in (I don't know how or why, but I've read that it IS deliberate....)
I can remember when it was worth .70!

5. I don't see the problem. Recent history shows that a strong dollar isn't good for workers. nt |

9. There some real concern in Canada about this |
|
For the longest time, our lower dollar was a competitive advantage. The recent shift has happened so quickly that there is still fallout yet to come.

10. Precisely. Canadians (also Chinese, Japanese, and Germans) all fret if their currency is TOO STRONG |
|
A strong dollar merely encourages gluttonous over-consumption of Chinese crap and the continuing off-shoring of jobs.
It's a great deal for corporations, but a bum deal for workers, and the Germans, Canadians, Chinese, Japanese, et al. understand this.
