and his craving for destruction.

8. More about Luis Souffront

http://www.miamiherald.com/416/story/413396.html

A Miami man was killed in combat in Iraq last week, the Department of Defense announced Saturday.

Navy Petty Officer 1st class Luis A. Souffront, 25, died from wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device, according to a statement released by the Defense Department.

Souffront's cousin, Oscar, who lives in Miami, said the family was in mourning and declined comment on Saturday.

Souffront was the 22nd service member who was either listed by the Department of Defense as being from Miami-Dade County, or who had strong ties to the county, to be killed in Iraq including active military, reserves and National Guard.

There have been 14 from Broward County and at least 172 service members statewide killed in Iraq.

Souffront, an explosive ordnance disposalman, was assigned to the Defense Department's Naval Special Warfare Group II, which is based Virginia Beach.

He was part of a Navy SEAL team that had gone into Iraq on an assignment that injured six of his comrades, the Virginian-Pilot reported Saturday.

The newspaper reported that Souffront was the third combat death this week among personnel assigned to that unit.

Defense Department officials did not disclose details of the operation that led to Souffront's death.

''Petty Officer Louis Souffront was an outstanding EOD technician. Respected for his skill and courage, he was valued as a teammate by the SEALs he fought beside,'' said his commanding officer in a statement released by military authorities in Virginia Beach. The officer was not identified.

''His service to our country represented the highest ideals of our community and his loss affects us all. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family and friends in this most trying time,'' the officer said.

Souffront enlisted in the Navy July 24, 2000. After completing boot camp, he attended several specialized training schools and completed Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal School at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in July 2002.

Herald correspondent Phil Long contributed to this report.

7. Skelton killed by improvised explosive device in Iraq
http://www.moguard.com/DisplayArticle.asp?ArticleID=211

Missouri Army National Guard Sgt. Bradley J. Skelton, 40, of Gordonville, was killed when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) on Feb. 6 in Iraq. Skelton, who came out of retirement to serve on this deployment, was a member of the 1138th Engineer Company (Sapper), headquartered in Farmington. He has been posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.

“I am saddened beyond words about the loss of Sgt. Skelton, I knew him personally and was very proud of his decision to rejoin the Missouri National Guard for this deployment,” said Maj. Gen. King Sidwell, adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard. “I ask everyone to pray for the 1138th Engineer Company as they struggle with their second Soldier death in less than one week.”

In an interview before his deployment, Skelton said, “I decided to come out of retirement because I have a lot of close friends going back for a second time and want to serve with them again,” Skelton said in July 2007. “I hope that my previous experiences can help protect the new Soldiers as well.”

Skelton originally enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard in 1984, during his senior year in high school. He deployed with the 1140th Engineer Battalion to Iraq in 2004-2005. He came out of retirement to mobilize with the unit in July 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 1138th Engineer Company (Sapper) has been conducting route clearance Operations while in Iraq. The unit attempts to locate and defeat improvised explosive devices (IED) and maintain traffic flow along military supply routes.

9. And how many Iraqis???? Huh, do you with to give a number for them too?
These threads are another sign that Americans, even DUers sometimes, seem to view foreigners as sub-humans. With no word do you mention the hundreds of thousands nameless and faceless that were MURDERD by these 3959, each of whoom gets mentioned as a valuable individual. This type of thread is a slap in the face to all Iraqis.

16. No. Certainly not. But:
How would you feel if there was a constant move of calling for compassion for the german victims of World War Two. and a celebration of the bravery of the german troops who fell in hitler's illegal wars, with no mention whatsoever of the victims of the nazis. I feel strongly that there needs to be a shift of thinking with regards to this. I think alot of people rightfully find it offensive, when a nation which started a war of agression mourns their own fallen without any regard to the victims of this war on the other side.
