Has anyone heard what is going on with the GOP count in WA?
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 01:08 PM by Hamlette
The GOP announced McCain the winner with only 87% reporting. Why hasn't the other 13% reported? Why are they declaring a winner? McCain is only up by 1.8% and 13% has not been counted. Anyone hearing any rumors about this?

What happened to the 13%?

(edited to add, I posted this on the politics page but its kinda nasty over there and I didn't expect this to be a question about Hillary OR Obama. Yikes. I was hoping someone, maybe someone from WA, would know what was going on.)

1. I haven't heard anymore.
They probably didn't want McCain to be any more embarrassed than he already is, so they stopped while he was marginally ahead.

It looks like the totals have stayed the same since late last night.

Huckabee on Meet the Press this morning mentioned there were 'legal challenges' going on there. No more details...

4. the McCainiacs need till Monday....
to complete the shredding of the remaining ballots.

Then that 87% will become 100% of the vote. See how easy?

I'm wondering if there is any oversight or election safeguards or is this the way November is going to be. I'm beginning to think the US is now officially a third world democracy.

7. Here's an update-Huckabee is challenging the results
"Mike Huckabee is challenging the results of the Washington state Republican caucuses, his campaign announced Sunday, after accusing the state party chairman of calling the election for John McCain before all the votes were counted.

The campaign will be pursuing a full investigation, including sending in lawyers to join those already on the scene in the state, officials told FOX News.

Washington State Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser announced late Saturday that McCain had won the 2008 Republican caucuses in the state with 87.2 percent of precincts reporting. McCain had 25.5 percent over Huckabee’s 23.7 percent in that race.

(snip)

Ed Rollins, Huckabee campaign chairman, directly challenged Esser’s move, saying the count was incomplete because the other 12.8 percent of precincts could tip the scales since McCain was beating Huckabee by only a couple hundred votes."

8. more on the issue at TPM

How odd. And as Josh points out, the oddest part is no national press on this.

11. According to our local news, 93% precincts reporting, as of Sun. evening...
with a difference of only 223 delegates elected between the two leaders in the race. Evidently, some of the Republican caucuses didn't follow protocol, too, (that must be the irregularities the Huckster was speaking of on Meet the Press) and they had reports of delegate selection beginning before any votes were ever taken, no discussion or debate, and a Ron Paul delegate being pushed out.

I think the turn-out for the rethugs here was very poor, so it is odd that so much confusion is swirling around their count. A neighbor of ours took time out to go in to his precinct and only three people showed up for that caucus.
