Serious question: Would you rather have a Democratic President |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 03:08 PM by rateyes
with a Democratic Majority in Congress that acts like the current Democratic Majority,
OR
A Republican President with a Democratic Majority in Congress that actually holds the Executive Branch in check and accountable?
(Yeah, I know, we need the best of both---Democratic President and Democratic Majority that holds the Executive in check and accountable, but if the only options were the previous two--which one would you prefer? Myself, I choose the latter over the former.)

|
On the SCOTUS issue? Since when have we used our power to stop SCOTUS appointments like Roberts and Alito?

2. Congress won't be the same |
|
under a Democratic president. I think it will work with the president to put the country back on a steady course. It will be like the first six years of W's administration, except without all the civil rights trashing and war starting.

12. Not a chance.....Bush and Cheney will enjoy a long profit filled speaking tour to the rabid right... |
|
crowd. Although the speaking part for Bush might be a stretch.
I fully expect the next administration be it Rep or Dem to help bury the evidence or use it for leverage for their own gain but no one in Bushco will ever stand before a judge or before a Congressional investigation.

7. Yes! How has the current Congress done at reversing course on Bush? |
|
The President sets the agenda, and Congress reacts.

9. That's kind of my point. The current Congress hasn't done |
|
anything to reverse course on Bush. They have the power, but not the will to hold Bush accountable. I don't want a unitary executive, regardless of the party that controls it.

13. For one thing, they lose the argument of why should we vote on it if the President will |
|
veto it. No such threat will exist for the most part for dem legislation. In fact, it will be more likely vetoed if the rats get some of their provisions in.

14. Progressive democratic majority. |
|
Congress can rule if it has the will and solidarity to do so. I'd gladly take a real progressive congress. I expect that Obama will find that he has instead a congress all too willing to do nothing and change nothing, and if that lunatic Mccain gets in he will find a congress once again ready to continue the status quo.

15. Don't forget that third branch. |
|
With a Supreme Court not packed with dirtbags, your question would have a lot more meaning. And with an informed and involved citizenry not beaten into submission, then we might really find out what the two parties think they're all about.
