Is this good for the Democrats?
Source: Washington Post-ABC News poll
By Michael Abramowitz and Jon Cohen

Public views of the national economy are now more negative than at any point in nearly 15 years, and few people believe that the kind of stimulus plan being devised by President Bush and Congress is enough to stave off or soften a recession, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. More than eight in 10 Americans describe the economy as "not so good" or "poor," and nearly six in 10 believe the United States is already in a recession. While voters appear more sanguine about their own circumstances, three in 10 are now pessimistic about their financial prospects over the coming year, double the percentage holding a dour outlook in December 2006. The new poll, conducted Jan. 30-Feb. 1, shows how thoroughly the souring economy has overtaken the war in Iraq as the electorate's principal concern. More

I think that this is good for the Democrats. Historically, when the economy is slumping, people vote for the party that is not holding the White House. However, I'm concerned that the GOP spin machine is going to try to blame this on the Democratic Congress.

Any views or thoughts?

1. It's good for the Dems. How the Democratic nominee uses this to his/her
political advantage this November, remains to be seen.

2. It is good for the democrats as long as they make no promise
They are not willing to keep. As long as everything is kept truthful and a real attempt to better our situation is made they have nothing to worry about. I think even Iraq will settle down when bush is gone as long as the new president is less of a bully towards them. We have been lied to so much that a little honesty and openness will go along way.

As far as the economy is concerned, even the worst conservative ax grinder knows where the blame is due. It won't stop them from lying but this time most voters know better.

3. Any time that national suffering is seen as "good" for partisans ...
... it demonstrates the moral corruption of partisanship itself, imho.
