Social Security Staff Cuts Are Reducing Service For the Poor And Elderly

http://www.laborradio.org/node/7898

By Doug Cunningham

The American Federation of Government Employees says staffing levels at the Social Security Administration are the lowest since 1972 thanks to Bush budget cuts. The AFGE’s Witold Sweirczynsnki says Congress needs to appropriate more money for staffing to meet people’s social security service needs.

: “We have slipped below 60,000 employees. In order to stretch out a limited budget, SSA has engaged in what we think are some questionable tactics to reduce service to the public. One of them is to accelerate office closings and the second is to emphasize the filing of the public of internet claims. The population affected by these closings are seniors, widows, the disabled and the poor.”

1. Kick...
The LOWEST since 1972? are you fucking kidding me..? factor in inflation and recession and all the economic changes since then
(god, I was 2 yo for christs sake, my parents were considered truly middle class back then)

kay, let's try and figure out what that really means circa 2008
...it is MORE than just the POOR we are talking about, we are talking about an absolute disregard for
BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS

i fear for things to get worse before they get better
After seeing a report about the wheat crops being too low to sustain us
I told my son, why do you think I want us to consider survival skills as our lessons for the summer?
we have already been living on less than $100 a week for a family of four,
if we didn't have helpful family members and grocery donations, we'd be done by now

we need to care for our fellow humans
no matter what

government isn't going to do it, we have to help EACHOTHER at this point

can you see it?
