The economy is in good shape
I sometimes listen to right wing radio, not often because it makes my head hurt but on occasion I do. Lately, I keep hearing over and over that the economy is really in good shape and that its us liberals creating an illusion that its bad. WTF? Do these clowns really believe this nonsense? Do people that listen really believe what they hear? How does one create an illusion of a bad economy? Its stupid beyond belief yet, there they are, saying the same stuff over and over. What do they hope to gain from it? I just don't get it.

1. They figure their listeners are so stupid they'll believe it. The
swallowed the old WMD story hook, line, and sinker. And they believed if long after anyone who ran even on instinct should have given up on that one.

Even if you only look at the sheer quantity of them never mind the terrible consequences they have led to.

2. If you have your own radio show, you probably make plenty of money
and have an easy job.,.no heavy lifting, no dirty hands (except figuratively)..for THEM the economy is just fine..

They spend hours a day trying to convince the poor schlubs who tune into their shows, that THEY are doing great too..

6. It's great, if you're a well-monied person.
And that's the second fantasy that the Wrong Wing talkboxes convey to their listeners . . . besides the one about the economy being great: that THEY too, the listeners, ARE well-monied individuals. And if they're not, don't fret! Because if you vote for keeping all of these advantages the wealthy have over the rest of us, when you get there, you'll have those same advantages!!! Now keep chasing that carrot! Vote McCain!

Seriously, listening to a lot of these Rush/Kudlow/O'Reilly fans, they literally think of themselves, financial situation be damned, as RICH. It's comedy at it's finest.

12. The Repubs already have 7 keys against them
If the two economic keys go against them -- and they probably will -- their doom is assured. It may even mean a landslide in November. It's the job of the RW echo chamber to reduce the magnitude of this defeat as much as possible and they probably think they can do so by talking it down. It's the same with all the bullshit about the surge working or the recent attempt to forge peace among the Israelis and Palestinians. They have to get down to less than 6 keys but they can't, of course. They may end up with as many as 10 against them in November.

14. They've convinced themselves that it's true.....
.... Cognitive dissonance is the only thing that allows them (at least the ones who aren't very wealthy) to function.

18. They hope to hang on to their jobs, is what they gain from lying their collective a$$es off.
And the morans who listen to them and believe their lies are the same morans who always vote against their best financial interests by voting for a party of elitists who never cared about them and never will.

19. One RWer said that, ignoring energy and food costs, inflation was down ...
of course, this is the same radio station which had a morning drive a-hole sub the morning after Christmas calling the New York Times communist because it had a headline that the Xmas sales were "disappointing" - he used Bloomberg News :eyes: as his reference ...

and less than a month later, the figures came in ... and the NYTs was right ... this a-hole issue a correction? naw ...

20. Right wing radio audience is made up primarily...
...of the Upside-Down People.

These people are wired and or "taught" to believe that War is Peace, Poverty is Wealth, Bush is a Genius and there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. These people are wired to accept authority figures and what they say as gospel, even when the evidence of their own senses tells them differently. There are Upside-Down People in every culture and religion, every country and city, every family that has not educated its children to actually think. I believe that Upside-Downizm is the most dangerous of human conditions and it is what is destroying our species and planet.

Right wing radio serves the wealthy by focusing on the Upside-Down People and keeping them malinformed. If the Upside-Down people ever really saw through their veil of illusions, they would be shocked at what they have been led to believe by "their own side" and the consequences to the wealthy elites would be catastrophic. So right wing radio keeps spewing bullshit in order to divide us, and keep the Upside-Down People under the veil.

What do they hope to gain? They hope to keep this sleeping giant asleep. If a hundred and fifty million angry Americans suddenly woke up and turned on them, well... I can't even imagine what would happen. Lies like what you describe are intended to keep the Upside-Down People confused, asleep and powerless...
